Patient care technicians (PCTs) are responsible for maintaining medical records, assisting with patient care needs, and performing clerical duties. PCT is responsible for collecting and reporting of information to the nurse and completion of all patient care related documentation. Ensures the comfort and safety of the patients.
Education, Training and Licenses Required- High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate, or equivalent
- BLS certificate required
- Medical Assistant, EMT, CNA experience preferred
- Six (6) months of healthcare experience preferred
- Good Verbal and written communication skills for regular contact with employees, patients and patient’s families
- Positive interpersonal skills
- Basic math and computer skills
- Good organizational skills
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology/anatomy
- Ability to work with others in a flexible, cooperative manner.
- The PCT performs support functions for the unit, including basic clerical functions, order entry, supply ordering and maintenance of a tidy patient care and desk area.
- Ensures safety for patients at risk for self-harm, injury.
- Provides individualized attention, which encourages each patient’s ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
- Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of patients in the delivery of services to them.
- Interacts with patients in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
- Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials.
- Is willing to accept direction from team leader.
- Answering call lights and addressing patient requests or informing primary care nurse or CNA of patient requests.
- Assisting CNA or nursing with patient care under direction.
- Maintains safe environment. Performs proactive rounding as directed and adheres to all hospital and departmental policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Participates in all fall interventions and unit specific safety practices and goals.
- Customer Service:
Answers phone calls, greets and directs all patients and visitors in a timely, friendly and courteous manner. Receives feedback from co-workers and patients. Supports unit goals to improve the patient experience. - Assists with set up and/or feedings of patients when appropriate.
- Use of multi-line phone system, computer, and knowledge of Microsoft office suite preferred.
- Proficiency in electronic documentation system must be obtained and return demonstration to the Lead.
- Assisting in bookkeeping/filing duties
Employees are responsible for all aspects of the hospital safety and health program including compliance with safety rules and regulations, remedying unsafe working conditions, and for continuously practicing safety while performing duties. Sonoma Specialty Hospital policy prohibits employees with patient contact or those who prepare products for patient use from wearing artificial nails.
Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the position is frequently required to do the following:
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for sustained period of time.
- Walk, push, pull, lift, carry objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position or otherwise move objects.
- Feel sizes, shapes, temperatures, and textures by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.
- Express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately, or quickly.
- Perceive the nature of sound with no less than a 40 db loss @ 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
- Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction.
