Job Description
Accountability objective: To build and establish relationships with customers and vendors to identify their service needs while presenting competitive solutions.
TRAFFIC COORDINATORPay: $22.00 per hour
Description: Coastal Transportation is a family owned and locally operated shipping company. CTI operates several ocean-going freighters carrying cargo between Seattle and Western Alaska. Freight is received at our Seattle terminal and loaded onto the freighters for delivery to Alaska. Similarly, cargo coming down from Alaska is unloaded at the Seattle terminal and distributed via truck and train all over the U.S. We understand the value in capably serving the communities of Western Alaska through fast, efficient, and reliable cargo transportation and have been doing this for over 30 years.
Responsibilities- Greet customers, vendors, and carriers at the receiving window in a positive and helpful manner
- Review or create paperwork accurately and in a timely manner and direct customers to the proper location for loading or unloading of freight
- Coordinate customer cargo bookings to/from Seattle and Alaska and between Alaskan ports
- Ensure that bookings are executed according to the customer’s instructions
- Identify, track, and execute sales opportunities including creating and sending estimates
- Effectively communicate with Terminal operations to ensure freight ships deliver per customer’s instructions
- Flexible to change and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Solve problems as they arise; lost or damaged product, disgruntled customers/vendors, late deliveries, etc., direct to supervisor when needed
- Create freight claim packets as needed
- Compile weekly vessel package including manifest, stability, and freight reconciliation
- Support vessel operations in Alaska via logistical support from Seattle
- Create and review billing information in a timely, complete, and accurate manner. Follow up and collect payment for cash and one-time shipments
- Respond to phone calls and emails in a timely and efficient manner
- Dependability and the ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards
- 8-hour shift
- Weekends as needed

Relocate before starting work (Required)
- Customer Service – 1 year experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service- written, interpersonal, and telephone communication skills
- Computer fluency in MS Office programs and familiarity with data entry software and tools
- Time management skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Team player with a positive and proactive attitude
- HS diploma or GED required, or 2 years of industry experience preferred
- Proficiency in basic computations and spelling
- Regularly move about office periodically
- Required ability to occasionally push/pull or lift/move over 25 pounds
- Sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, see, and hear
- Specific vision ability required includes close vision and ability to focus
