Once they have chosen what they want, it's our job to make their booking smooth and easy, showing them the right information at the right time. We support complex travel products around the world, built for everyone from seasoned business travelers to people leaving on their first trip away from home.
As a Mobile Engineer I/II - Android on the Modern Checkout team, you'll work with global stakeholders to help millions of people set out on great adventures, visit home, and stay connected across their hometown and around the world.
Along with building great software, you’ll help elevate our team, teaching strong engineers from web, API, and native backgrounds about the finer points of Android development. You’ll help discover how we can integrate the latest AI tools, along with personal judgment and experience, to build software quickly and well.
In this role, you will:Design, build, and maintain Android application features and components that are reliable, scalable, and easy to maintain
Implement well‑structured Kotlin code, including system design (LLD), API integration, and data modeling, following Android and Expedia Group engineering standards
Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to translate product and UX requirements into performant Android experiences across multiple domains
Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex issues in Android applications, improving quality, performance, and stability through testing and monitoring
Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation, promoting engineering best practices and consistent patterns across services and features
Work with cutting‑edge AI tools to build software quickly to high quality standards, apply AI/ML to real‑world products, and safely integrate and operate AI/ML enabled solutions that improve outcomes for our travelers and business
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
5+ years of relevant professional experience
Proven experience developing and shipping Android applications using Kotlin in a production environment
Experience designing and integrating with APIs, working with data modeling, and applying sound low‑level system design practices
Demonstrated ownership of Android application features or components, including implementation, testing, and ongoing maintenance within a broader mobile product or service
Experience working on Android applications at scale, including performance optimization, offline handling, and robust error management across complex user journeys
Background in architecting modular Android applications that integrate with multiple backend systems and data sources, including clear contracts and versioning strategies
Strong focus on operational excellence for mobile apps, including monitoring, logging, experimentation, and automated testing strategies (unit, UI, and integration)
Experience with AI‑driven software development, familiarity with best practices, and clear points of view on AI and human contributions in this rapidly evolving landscape for good technical and product quality, good architecture, and fast development
Experience leading technical design for Android features or subsystems, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring others in modern Android and AI‑assisted development practices
