At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.

Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As a Software Developer II on the New Glenn Data Engineering, Software, and Automation (DESA) team, you will implement well-scoped features and services that help manage foundational engineering data across spaceflight systems for New Glenn. Working closely with a team of Software Developers and Technical Product Managers, you turn requirements into robust, observable software that supports vehicle design, operations, production, maintenance, and beyond.

You will contribute to the platform that makes complex engineering data meaningful and actionable.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement features, services, and tooling in Java and SQL within established architectural patterns for the DESA platform.
  • Participate in design discussions and contribute to design documents for well-scoped components, with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code; develop unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; ensure performance and reliability of your deliverables.
  • Instrument code and services for observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and help build dashboards/alerts; assist in troubleshooting production issues using established runbooks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Systems Engineering, Operations, and Dev Ops) to refine requirements and deliver working solutions.
  • Use and help maintain CI/CD pipelines; support regular, reliable deployments.
  • Contribute to prototypes and experiments to evaluate technologies and approaches.
  • Participate in code reviews; follow and help improve team standards for security, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Document APIs, data contracts, and operational procedures to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
  • Support on-call rotations or production readiness activities with guidance, focusing on learning and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2-5 years of Enterprise back-end Software Development experience.
  • Proficiency in Java and SQL, and experience building RESTful services and data-driven applications.
  • Experience with modern testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, TestNG) and test automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Services (AWS preferred) and Containerization (Docker).
  • Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals, data modeling, and performance considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AWS, Docker, Redis, Jenkins.
  • Exposure to configuration/PLM systems.
  • Experience with aerospace systems or interest in the domain.
  • Familiarity with No

    SQL data stores (e.g., Dynamo

    DB, Mongo

    DB, Cassandra).
  • Experience with modern web UI development (e.g., React/Type Script) is a plus.
  • Observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry).
  • Scripting for developer tooling or data tasks (e.g., Python, Go).
  • Ability to quickly absorb information in unfamiliar domains and translate it into software; self-driven with strong ownership of assigned work.
