Product Engineering & API Services

Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the API Services team within the Product Engineering organization. The API Services team’s mission is to build highly available, high‑throughput services that are critical to delivering high‑quality content to our subscribers.

Technologies include Scala, Python, Apache Flink, Spark, Databricks, and AWS (ECS, Lambda, Dynamo

DB, WAF, among others). Experience in these areas is preferred but not required.

Qualifications
  • You work diligently with team members and project management to suss out requirements to provide technical solutions and direction.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and being part of conversations where discordant views are present.
  • You have an intermediate understanding of software development fundamentals and architecture, and you aren’t dogmatic about technology choices.
  • You are interested in learning about or have experience with web technologies and web system architecture.
  • You have experience with Java, Scala, and associated technologies.
  • You have experience building and maintaining highly automated systems that leverage tools such as Jenkins, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Spinnaker.
  • You have knowledge/experience with AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, Dynamo

    DB, Elasti Cache, Cloud Front, etc.) or other cloud providers.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role
  • Be a part of a team of big data and backend engineers to deliver high‑value projects.
  • Build components of a large‑scale data platform for real‑time and batch processing, and own features of big‑data applications to fit evolving business needs.
  • Participate in building next‑generation service platform on cloud‑based big‑data infrastructure for batch and streaming data applications, and continuously improve performance, scalability, and availability.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives as a team.
  • Build automated tests to ensure application reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews.
Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training or work experience.

Required Years of Work Experience

3 years of experience in a technical field.

Pay Range

The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $114,900 – $154,100; in Seattle, WA and New York City, NY it is $120,300 – $161,300 per year.
