Work Schedule / Conditions

The duties of this position are primarily performed in an office environment and onsite at the Chinook building located in downtown Seattle, although some field work may be required. Shifts will include weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays during any hours between 8:00 am and 11:30 pm. Candidates must be willing to work in an environment that may cause exposure to communicable diseases when out in the field.

This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Acts and is overtime eligible (non-exempt status) with supervisory pre-approval. This position is represented by SEIU.

Mission Critical Position Status

This position has been designated Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director, or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.

Job Duties
  • Receive and manage incoming referrals for possible involuntary treatment under RCW 71.05 and 71.34.
  • Gather information from community members and professionals via phone as part of the intake and investigation process while flagging emergent and urgent outreach needs for DCR follow-up.
  • Complete Declarations for witness review, signature and filing with the ITA Court.
  • Review and investigate Orders of Dismissals and Directing for Civil Commitment Evaluation.
  • Timely and accurately complete shift reports and other assigned work.
  • Request pertinent patient records when applicable.
  • Participate in case conferencing by sharing relevant case information with the DCRs and other ITA screeners.
  • Work closely with DCR supervisors when reviewing hospital and/or outreach cases for the supervisor to make a final determination regarding a case's priority level.
  • Closely monitor the IPfax inbox and route documents accordingly.
  • Systematically organize case workup and all documentation when setting up case files.
  • Review the call log to prioritize referrals and return calls in a timely manner while assuring meticulous and thorough documentation of conversations.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining electronic health records and utilizing other databases and technical applications.
  • Make recommendations for, and develop, standard operating procedures related to ITA screening.
  • Reconcile the call log to the screener rack to account for all cases.
  • Assist DCR teams in the field, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least two years of recent, relevant experience demonstrating knowledge of the public behavioral health treatment system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience working with individuals or families experiencing crisis.
  • Familiarity with RCW 71.05 and RCW 71.34 and related WACs.
