Position: CPS/FAR Social Service Supervisor 5 (SSS5) - Parkland

Job Title: CPS/FAR Social Service Supervisor 5 (SSS5).

Location: Parkland, WA - Region 5, Parkland Office. Full‑time, permanent. Time in field and office required; full‑time teleworking not an option.

Closes: 01/20/2026

Salary: $6,576 – $8,842 plus base salary. Duties include visits in unregulated environments, such as private residences, to conduct investigations for allegations of abuse and/or neglect and assess the safety of vulnerable children.

Opportunity

As a frontline supervisor in the CPS/FAR unit, you will use your assessment and engagement skills to supervise Social Service Specialists. You will provide staff with advanced‑level guidance, specialized case‑management knowledge, mentoring, coaching, and consultation to help achieve child protection, permanency planning, and child‑well‑being goals. The unit supervisor reviews frontline employees’ work, provides clinical reviews, and applies child‑welfare practice principles, laws, and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor a unit of Social Service Specialists and complete casework.
  • Manage and support specialists to ensure assessments and investigations are thorough, comprehensive, and completed timely.
  • Coordinate with other supervisors to ensure appropriate coverage for the office.
  • Participate in supervisory, administrative, and individual meetings and conferences.
  • Perform quality assurance on staff documentation, assessments, reports, case‑management, and payment initiation.
  • Ensure documentation is recorded in the case file and FAMLINK electronic record.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, counseling, consultation, on‑the‑job training, and feedback.
  • Prepare written staff performance evaluations using the Performance Evaluation system.
  • Consult with administrators and human resources regarding corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Train new and existing staff to gather accurate and complete information, organize information, and make case decisions.
  • Keep staff informed of policies, rules, and regulations affecting their jobs and the children and families they serve.
  • Provide consultation and oversight to ensure accurate application of the child‑safety framework.
  • Review and revise service referrals and letters, family assessments, and investigative assessments.
  • Attend and testify in Superior Court.
Required Qualifications
  • Eight (8) years of paid social service experience and 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline; OR
  • A Master’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field AND three (3) years of paid social service experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field AND four (4) years of paid social service experience; OR
  • One (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4 (SSS4); OR
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3 (SSS3).
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

NOTE: A two‑year Master’s degree that included a practicum may substitute for one (1) year of paid social service experience.


* Paid social service experience
includes at least one (1) year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family‑centered practice services.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior public child welfare experience.
  • A completed Master’s Degree in Social Work.
  • Previous case management experience working with children and families in Child Welfare Programs (CPS, CFWS, Adoptions/Permanency, or After hours).
  • Current knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and policies on the delivery of child protective and child welfare services within Washington State.
  • Experience implementing risk assessment using the preferred risk assessment model and child‑safety framework.
  • Experience using Fam Link and maintaining Fam Link documentation.
