Additional Compensation Details
  • $35.00/hr – $50.00/hr pay rate
  • Potential 90‑day performance‑based raise

Schedule

8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Tuesday – Saturday, five 8‑hour shifts a week

Charlie’s Produce is looking to add an experienced Fleet Mechanic to join their team in South Seattle. We are looking for a professional person who is attentive to details such as being on time, a team player, and willing to work hard.

A Journeyman Mechanic is a certified, highly skilled professional who independently diagnoses, repairs, and maintains complex automotive or industrial equipment. They perform advanced engine work, system repairs (hydraulics, electrical), and preventive maintenance, often supervising apprentices. Qualifications include completing an apprenticeship program, passing certification exams, and having extensive hands‑on experience.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Include, but Are Not Limited To:
  • Preventative maintenance / diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical and computer systems on vehicles or machinery.
  • Running repairs on a variety of equipment including tractors, trailers, lift gates, reefers and yard trucks.
  • Rebuilding engines, transmissions and components, and maintaining hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and inspections to ensure vehicle safety and performance.
  • Utilizing vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and complete repairs.
  • Performing diagnostic and repair work on heavy diesel engines and related systems, including lift‑gate hydraulics and transmissions.
  • Using hand tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Maintaining accurate records of repairs and services performed.
  • Working on and maintaining refrigeration trailers and box trucks.
  • Completing required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Ensuring safety and compliance by adhering to all safety protocols (LOTO), environmental regulations, and hazardous waste disposal guidelines.
  • Supervising and training apprentices and junior mechanics, inspecting the quality of their work.
Qualifications Required Skills and Experience
  • At least 5 years of previous truck diagnosis of diesel mechanic experience on Class 8 vehicles; preferred knowledge of Freightliner, Isuzu & Hino.
  • Knowledgeable in the diagnosis and repair of all makes of electronically controlled diesel engines; fleet experience is a must.
  • Mechanical and diagnostic knowledge and/or experience with diesel engines, lift gates and refrigeration units.
  • Basic welding skills and knowledge of TIG, MIG and stick welding.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to read/follow technical manuals and verbal instructions alike.
  • Comfortable with the use of factory scan tools.
  • Professional mechanics toolbox.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Cummins and Detroit certifications.
  • Reefer maintenance experience.
  • Class A is a plus;
    Class B preferred.
