Position Summary

Potawatomi Defense Operations is seeking a qualified General Maintenance Worker to provide overall facilities maintenance support for complex facilities including office, laboratory, computer, warehouse, and other special‑purpose spaces. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance and general repairs on building operating systems—HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and lighting—and general carpentry or structural repair as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Use of materials, methods, equipment, and tools for the maintenance, repair, and construction of building structures and systems, including rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, mechanical, and painting work.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance operations, services, and activities.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and ability to diagnose and correct malfunctions, plus basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Understanding of safety management principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in office automation tools: computers, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and building management software.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply facility maintenance manuals, technical bulletins, construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Clear, concise communication orally and in writing.
  • Maintenance of effective working relationships with a diversified group of people under sometimes stressful conditions.
  • Use of common hand tools and related equipment.
  • Analysis, evaluation, and recommendation of sound solutions to routine problems.
  • Independent and efficient work performance.
  • Collaboration with the On‑Site Project Manager, On‑Site Supervisor, and Site Foreman for general supervision and performance evaluation.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible general/facility maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical, background check, drug screening, and federal security access badge screening.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Most work is performed indoors at the Western Regional Center in Seattle, Washington. Some work may be outdoors in all weather conditions and requires willingness to work in inclement weather.

  • Exposure to noise.
  • Required personal protective equipment (PPE) for each job duty.
  • Frequent lifting, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Reaching with hands and arms above and below sight level.
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing requirements for effective communication with field personnel.
  • Walking with occasional use of stairs; no elevator available.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50–75 pounds and occasional carrying up to 35 pounds for distances up to 100 feet.
