Position: Maintenance Mechanic 4

Permanent Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4) – Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC)

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill one full time permanent Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4) position, at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center. COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER (CRCC) is located on a 60-acre site about 40 miles north of the Tri-Cities. CRCC is comprised of two-complexes. The Medium Security Complex (MSC) is a 2,048 bed facility that houses Incarcerated Individuals (I/I) with Medium and MI3 Custody.

MSC consists of 4 Hybrid units and 4 Medium units. The Minimum Security Unit (MSU) is a 480 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody I/I. MSU consists of 2 units. This is a work/program orientated facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs and Class II and Class III Correctional Industries work programs.

Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Project Supervisor, this position supervises an incarcerated crew of 3 to 10 individuals in a safe and proper manner. This position must perform skilled mechanical work on the plant machinery, mechanical equipment and mechanical systems at a 2528-bed minimum and medium security prison, which includes housing units, administration buildings, warehouse facilities, education/offender services building, recreation building, food services building, staff training buildings, EFV's, recycling center, steam plant, all totaling 725,649 sg.

Job Duties
  • Maintain and repair facility mechanical systems.
  • Perform work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all facility mechanical equipment fixtures and machinery, that requires a working knowledge of related fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, machinist work, metal fabrication, carpentry, locking devices and kitchen equipment.
  • All welding and metal fabrication throughout the institution to include TIG, MIG and stick/ARC
    (stainless steel).
  • Inspection of buildings, equipment and fixtures to determine need for maintenance.
  • Ability to purchase supplies as needed to maintain a proper inventory of essential materials.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints, schematics and specifications.
  • Assist various maintenance department supervisors and staff members to coordinate assignments that call for more than one craft.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain hydraulic equipment, the high-pressure steam system in P Bldg, and the boiler feed water program.
  • Train and supervise an incarcerated individual work crew.
  • Follow facility procedure for interviewing and hiring this crew. Before the inmates begin working on assigned tasks. They need to complete inmate Safety Orientation training. This training will be documented. No incarcerated individual will be allowed to begin work until this training is complete.
  • Keep accurate records of Inmate hours worked and any disciplinary action taken.
  • Maintain all required documentation and records.
  • Provide daily documentation of work orders completed in Micromain.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance records on equipment and machinery you are responsible to maintain, all required tool control documentation, accurate and timely incarcerated payroll records, accurate and up to date incarcerated safety training documents, and all other documentation and records required of this position.
  • Emergent situations may arise that require this position to perform other unspecified tasks. These could include snow removal during inclement weather or a facility lockdown or other unanticipated security situation.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Four years of metal fabrication experience. Must know equipment, tools, and safety devices used in oxyacetylene, TIG, MIG, electric, and heliarc welding, fabricating and cutting.
  • Knowledge of operating shop equipment such as welders, drill press, grinder, band saws, hoists, air tools and jacks for the purpose of repairing, designing, and fabricating parts, tools, or accessories.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Six months Prison/Corrections and/or Law enforcement experience.
  • One year experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
    • Carpentry
    • plumbing
    • doors/locks
    • electrical
    • electronics
    • air compressors
