Utility Line Worker - Helper
King County, WA Summary
This position supports journey-level trolley overhead line crews and electrical constructors in the repair, maintenance, and construction of transit power distribution systems and high‑voltage overhead systems. The role is open to King County employees and the general public and may be filled as a Career Service position or create an eligibility pool for future temporary openings.

Job Duties

• Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from trucks.

• Inspect and hand equipment and materials to line crew.

• Assist in trimming trees, shoveling, and setting up line poles.

• Support installation and maintenance of the trolley overhead system.

• Direct street and pedestrian traffic, including flagging duties.

• Alert crew of potential hazards such as high trucks or oncoming trolleys.

• Operate line trucks in absence of a line material worker

• Respond to emergency repair calls during non‑working hours if needed. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in electrical trades.
- Skill in caring for tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Skill in operating power tools and related equipment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, including interacting appropriately with others.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions.
- Safe driving record.

Desirable Qualifications:

- Experience with high‑voltage equipment under guidance of line crew.
- Current Washington State Flagger Certification.
- Current Forklift Operator Certification.
- Current First Aid Certification.

Special Requirements

• Valid Washington State Commercial Driver License (Class B or higher) or ability to obtain one within six months with provided training.

• Ability to obtain Flagger, Forklift Operator, and First Aid certifications within six months, with paid training and time provided by the County. Union Representation

Base: 2255 4th Avenue S, Seattle, WA 98134; dispatched throughout King County.

Schedule:

Full‑time, 40 hours/week, typically 4 days of 10‑hour shifts starting at 6:00 a.m. Schedule may change and include evening, overnight, or emergency shifts. Telework not eligible.

Physical Requirements
Ability to run a hand line, shovel, raise poles, jump trolleys, and lift up to 50 lb (100 lb with assistance). Work outdoors in all weather and near traffic/high voltage. Must wear Arc Flash uniforms (category 2–4 as needed). Benefits
