The Locksmith reports to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance and operates under the direction of the shop lead. This position provides essential locksmith services to support ongoing operations, safety, and maintenance of the university’s facilities. The Locksmith plays a critical role in maintaining campus security and operational integrity through the expert management of lock systems, door hardware installation, maintenance, and electronic or mechanical access control solutions.
The position requires technical expertise in keying systems, lock repair and replacement, and the installation of door hardware in accordance with building codes and university standards. The Locksmith is expected to collaborate with Facilities staff, project teams, and campus stakeholders to ensure secure, reliable access to university spaces while maintaining a high standard of customer service and operational efficiency.

Qualifications- Maintain, service, and troubleshoot a comprehensive range of locks across campus facilities, including but not limited to doors, windows, lockers, file cabinets, and padlocks.
- Design, install, retrofit, and upgrade locking hardware systems in both new and existing buildings to meet current security standards.
- Cut keys, repair locking mechanisms, and fabricate or modify parts as needed to ensure proper function and security.
- Install, maintain, and support mechanical and electronic locking systems, including cipher locks and audit trail hardware.
- Collaborate closely with the Department of Public Safety to manage key control procedures, access codes, and related security protocols.
- Manage the creation and distribution of vehicle keys in coordination with the fleet manager and mechanic, ensuring accurate inventory control.
- Install, maintain, and repair door closers and related hardware to ensure proper function and safety compliance.
- Monitor fire extinguisher locations and conditions, coordinating inspection and maintenance with approved vendors and Campus Public Safety.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling security codes, sensitive information, and personal data.
- Plan, organize, and execute assigned tasks independently or collaboratively, ensuring timely and effective completion of work orders.
