Summary
King County Facilities Management Division (FMD) Security Management Section (SMS) is seeking an experienced, professional, and dependable Security Dispatcher. The role involves monitoring and operating CCTV, access control systems, security communications, and duress and intrusion alarms to safeguard County property and employees.

Job Duties- Safeguard County property against damage or loss and protect County employees and authorized persons in facilities protected by the Enterprise Security Electronics system.
- Control ingress and egress of assigned County premises via operation of the remote access control system.
- Answer the emergency security dispatch phone line, gathering necessary information to dispatch appropriate security or emergency personnel.
- Perform security checks of assigned premises via CCTV, checking building interiors, doors, and building perimeters.
- Report criminal activity and unusual or unsafe conditions.
- Evaluate incidents and prepare accurate, comprehensive incident reports of criminal activity, suspicious circumstances, 911 responses, building emergencies, and personal injuries.
- Dispatch FMD Security Officers and King County Sheriff’s Office Court Protection Deputies via 800 MHz radio.
- Review shared inbox e‑mail traffic and respond to customer requests.
- Route after‑hours building emergency repair requests, contacting the Duty Manager and Security leadership as necessary.
- Monitor and report the operational status of security systems (camera checks, device failures, communications losses).
- Escalate notifications for required systems and/or equipment repairs to section leadership.
- Answer phones, collect situation details, and maintain shift logs.
- Assist with lead role in the absence of the security sergeant.
- Attend annual required training.
- Conduct radio checks as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- One (1) year of professional paid security, military, or law enforcement experience.
- One (1) year of experience monitoring multiple radios, CCTV, monitors, and related systems.
- Basic skills with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Proven experience in analyzing and prioritizing personnel response based on situations.
- Ability to direct staff within a company, agency, or building during incident response and emergencies.
- Experience in dispatching and notifying appropriate internal and external agency personnel using current notification guidelines.
- Police defensive tactics and use of force.
- Prior leadership experience in dispatching, security, and/or public safety.
- Graduation from a state‑certified law enforcement or public safety academy.
- Non‑exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act, eligible for overtime.
- Reporting location:
King County Courthouse. - Tentatively for second shift; shift and schedule may vary.
- Position represented by the King County Security Guild.
- Designated as Mission Critical – employees maintain essential services during emergencies.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or be able to travel throughout King County in a timely manner using County vehicles.
- Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, references, and a pre‑employment physical examination, if selected.
