The Security Management Section (SMS) with King County's Facilities Management Division (FMD) is looking to hire an experienced Security Sergeant. The Security Management team provides physical building security, building access control, operates an emergency dispatch center, and manages lost and found processes. This position is responsible for coaching and training security staff; assigning, directing, and scheduling work; and implementing security programs, policies and procedures and ensuring that proper protocols are followed.

The current open shift is 05:00 a.m.

- 1:00 p.m. at 516 3rd Ave, Seattle; however, the shift and reporting location are subject to change based on business and operational needs.

The purpose of this recruitment is to fill one current vacancy. We may also create an eligibility list of qualified applicants that will be used to select candidates based on their overall performance in the process.

The selection procedures for this recruitment will include a phone interview (pass/fail) and final interview (pass/fail).

ABOUT THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. The Security Management Section provides building security.  to learn more about FMD!

In order to be considered for this exciting opportunity, the successful candidate, at minimum, will demonstrate skill and ability to:

  • Perform all duties normally assigned to a Security Officer and Security Dispatcher for the Security Management Section and carry out work requirements as needed; may be required to support Security Officers or cover or relieve Security Dispatchers if needed.
  • Providedailydirectionandguidanceasneededtoadecentralizedworkforceof Security Officers and Dispatchers in securing the persons and property of the County.
  • Assist in staff training or retraining; provide feedback to the Security Management Section Manager and the Security Supervisors as it relates to performance appraisals; ensures that the policies, procedures, and protocols of the security unit are effectively carried out by security unit staff and recommends corrective action when the policies, procedures and protocols are not followed.
  • Prepareworkschedules,fillshiftvacanciesastheyoccur,andstructureworkassignments to meet operational needs and ensure proper coverage.
  • Review and validate employee payroll records for submission to section payroll clerk.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with staff, tenants, supervisors and the public.
  • Maintaineffectiveandprofessionalcustomerservicedeliverytointernalandexternal customers as a key liaison of service for the security unit.
  • Manage time effectively to meet work tasks and objectives within required timelines.
  • Communicateideaseffectivelyinwritingaswellasverballyinamannerthat demonstrates professionalism, effective judgment and discretion.
  • Reviewdailyactivitylogs,reports,andotherdataasnecessaryandenterdatainto spreadsheets used for statistical analysis to generate quarterly and annual activity reports.
  • Implement policies, procedures, building emergency plans, and after-hour weapons screening program in accordance with superior court orders.
  • May act as a Fire Safety Director alternate interacting the authorities having jurisdiction during fire emergencies.
  • Reviewandoverseereportsofsubordinatesforcompletenessandadherencetopolicy prior to submittal; prepare reports and provide information related to incident reporting.
  • Support access control,andcoordinatesiteinvestigationswhen outside law enforcement agencies are involved.
  • Mayserveas Acting Security  Supervisorintheabsenceofthe Security Supervisor .
  • Support the Division's Public Disclosure Request program in regards to recorded video data or video evidence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
  • Knowledge, experience, and skills required of the Security Officers;
  • At least three years of experience giving direction, planning and coordinating the work of others;
  • Knowledge of defensive tactics and use of force, and criminal and civil legal protections for persons and property;
    Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Proficient skills in using Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a public safety academy.
  • Prior military or law enforcement experience.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful candidates must have the ability to work the assigned shift and location. The shift currently available is 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM; however, the shift and reporting location are subject to change based on business and operational needs.
  • Must be able to wear a ballistic vest for the entirety of assigned shift except during approved breaks.
