Description
The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for identifying leads and proactively selling recycling services, enhancing the volume of recyclable materials to meet or exceed the Company’s target profit growth and contribute to the Company’s environmental goals.
Duties and Responsibilities- Identify viable leads, manage prospects and sell recycling services to new and existing customers to drive the volume of recyclable materials into the recycling facility managed by the Company to meet and exceed the Company’s revenue goals.
- Generate and provide sales leads for additional sales opportunities to the Commercial Sales Representative to capture additional revenue.
- Coordinate with Marketing and Product Development departments to ensure brand consistency and increase sales.
- Maintaining a schedule of client meetings and being available on-call to meet customer demands.
- Frequent travel to customer location and being available to work outside of business core hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Build long-term relationships with prospective and existing clients in a designated market.
- Develop and maintain an awareness of commodities market and competitive trends in designated market to anticipate changing customer needs; proactively manage customer base.
- Participate in the development and implementation of sales and marketing action plans.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Company’s available services and pricing structures and offer additional services to existing commercial, industrial, and recycling clients, as appropriate, to grow targeted revenue and contribute to Company goals and objectives.
- Meet regularly with top management as appropriate to review weekly sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship problems. Track all prospective customer information in the required reporting format.
- Track sales metrics and create weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales forecasts and goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of all federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations regarding recyclable materials; participate in company-sponsored training courses, meetings, and discussions regarding the classifications and characterization of recyclables.
- Build relationships and increase Company visibility through participation in Company sponsored events and activities, as required, which may include trade shows and Chamber of Commerce events.
- Explore methods to increase customer engagement.
- Prepare all required Customer Service Agreements, Contact Resource Management entries, and other reports in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
- Respond in a timely fashion to all customer and prospective client inquiries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills- High school diploma or GED;
Bachelor’s degree is preferred - One year of prior experience in a customer-facing sales role; two years of direct selling experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent sales and negotiation skills
- Prior waste industry or service industry experience, including knowledge of various recycling commodities, preferred.
- Familiarity with CRM (customer relationship management) software
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to learn new systems
- Professional presentation; is confident, assertive, and displays a high level of self-esteem
- Good written and verbal communication skills; is able to effectively communicate to all levels of management both internally and externally.
- Strong active listening skills; gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and letting others fully state their ideas.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
