To clean and maintain the galley and the eating area, as well as to ensure the smooth flow of mealtime by providing necessary components and assisting the Chief Steward, the First Cook and the Prep Cook as requested.

REPORTS TO CHIEF STEWARD PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

To clean and maintain the vessel; to ensure the smooth flow of mealtime by providing necessary components (I.E. juice, milk, coffee, rice, washing dishes, silverware, condiments, salads,) and assisting the chief steward or first cook as requested. Washing dishes, empty trash, assisting crew members, and restocking of various items in the galley. This position also reports to the first cook and prep cook.

DAILY
  • Confer with galley assistant going off shift, chief steward or first cook for any special instructions or job assignments.
  • Break down each meal and clean line, clean salad dressing containers and any other containers used for the meal before storing it away. Swap containers if too dirty.
  • Change dish washing water after each meal, clean machine thoroughly.
  • Throughout shift stock as needed;
    Milk, juice, napkins, breads, cups, silverware, cereal, fruit, yogurt, noodles, ect.
  • Keep dish washing area clean.
  • Clean rice pot spoon after each meal, clean rice pots once per shift.
  • Clean tea juice and milk area, along with the containers.
  • Keep crew refrigerator clean and stocked at all times.
  • Wipe off garbage cans as needed.
  • Organize and clean under benches and in cabinets when you have extra time.
  • Make salads, have initiative to be creative with new salad recipes.
  • Take out the trash when needed.
  • Use bleach water to wipe down all stainless-steel areas after each meal.
  • Drain and clean the steam line once during shift.
  • Assist the chief steward or first cook by turning on the line an hour before meal starts.
  • Clean condiments on tables after each meal. Wipe with bleach rag and restock if necessary.
  • Clean microwaves as needed.
  • Clean juice, milk and coffee machine as needed or requested by the first cook or chief steward.
  • Leave your area the way you want if left for you. Clean and tidy!

Report any problems to Chief Steward/ First cook or Captain.

Dress appropriately

Headphones are ok, as long as you can hear what’s going on around you.
