Overview
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states.
Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.
The Veatch Lab at Fred Hutch is interested in developing novel therapies for patients with solid tumors using engineered T cells. Our focus is on using helper CD4 T cells to target immune stimulatory cells to the tumor immune microenvironment to reverse immune suppression and enable tumor rejection. Our work involves analysis of human tumor samples, in vitro testing of engineered T cells, and mouse models of cancer.
We analyze immune responses using flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing, and high dimensional spatial analysis of immune cells in tumor tissue.
This is a terrific opportunity within the Veatch lab for a highly motivated full-time Research Technician I/II to join our team to help drive translational projects forward towards clinical applications by performing bench-level experiments in support of work in T cell engineering and testing of new therapeutic ideas in mouse models. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a team as well as independently to follow established protocols.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with mammalian cell culture, mouse models of cancer, molecular biology techniques, and flow cytometry.
- T cell engineering, which will include primary mouse and human T cell culture and genetic modifications of T cells with viral transduction and CRISPR/Cas
9. - Preparation of immune cells from mouse and human samples, partitioning for single cell sequencing, and preparation of single cell sequencing libraries.
- Perform procedures related to mouse cancer models, including tumor implantation, retro orbital blood draw, retro orbital injections, intraperitoneal injections, and tumor monitoring.
- Multiparameter flow cytometry of human and mouse samples
- Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team spanning expertise in medicine, biology, immunology, and bioinformatics
- Maintain laboratory equipment, records, research results files, and databases
- Assist with writing and co-authoring scientific manuscripts (in peer-reviewed journals)
- Perform other duties as required
