Base pay range

As a Senior Coffee Quality Technician, you will serve as a subject matter expert in green coffee quality operations. This role combines hands‑on roasting, sensory evaluation, and data management to ensure the highest standards of coffee quality. You’ll lead process improvements, provide technical guidance, troubleshoot daily quality processes, and champion innovation in roasting and sensory practices.

  • Sample Management:
    Prioritize and manage coffee samples for roasting and cupping, ensuring alignment with quality benchmarks. Collaborate with warehouse and planning teams to monitor green coffee inventories and determine dispositions.
  • Roasting & Sensory Leadership:
    Execute and refine roasting protocols, conduct daily cuppings, and become an approved Starbucks tasting expert. Elevate sensory evaluation practices for consistency and accuracy.
  • Drive Technical Innovation:
    Identify and implement improvements in workflows, data integrity, and operational efficiency. Collaborate cross‑functionally to integrate new tools and methodologies.
  • Equipment Management:
    Oversee maintenance and calibration of roasting and quality testing equipment to meet global standards.
  • Physical Testing:
    Perform and oversee tests such as green grading, bean size, roasted color, and moisture, ensuring accurate measurements and data recording.
  • Data Management:
    Ensure timely and accurate data entry across systems (Oracle, Smartsheet, Excel) and lead efforts to improve reporting and data quality.
We’d love to hear from people with
  • 2+ years of experience in food science, quality, or related field.
  • Coffee experience: 2 years, including sensory evaluation and roasting.
  • Strong technical skills in coffee quality testing and equipment management.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and handle confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Experience gathering, recording and reporting on operational and quality metrics, through manual or automated systems.
  • Ability to develop sensory skills including cupping.
  • Passionate about coffee quality, sensory evaluation, and continuous improvement.
