Position Overview- Supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
- Clinical and surgical care
- Assist with medical and surgical procedures:
This includes preparing the animal, instruments, and equipment for surgery. - Monitor anesthesia: LVTs induce and monitor anesthesia, and provide post‑operative care.
- Administer medications and treatments:
They give prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments to patients. - Provide nursing care:
This includes providing care for hospitalized animals, applying bandages, and managing critical care. - Perform dental prophylaxis:
This involves dental cleanings and assisting with dental procedures. - Manage emergencies: LVTs may provide emergency first aid and assist with triage.
- Assist with medical and surgical procedures:
- Diagnostics and laboratory work
- Perform diagnostic tests:
This includes running lab tests on blood, urine, and tissue samples. - Conduct imaging:
They perform X‑rays and other diagnostic imaging procedures. - Collect samples: LVTs collect specimens for laboratory testing, including blood draws.
- Record vital signs:
They monitor and record vital signs like heart rate and respiration.
- Perform diagnostic tests:
- Client and record management
- Educate clients: LVTs explain procedures, provide guidance on at‑home care, nutrition, and preventive health.
- Maintain records:
They keep accurate medical records for each patient.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) as required by State.
- Passionate about cats.
- One year of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
- Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, as well as basic pet nursing.
- Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology.
- Understand and limit the potential exposure to bites, scratches, and potential injuries.
- Able to restrain patients according to standard procedures.
- Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation procedures as directed by the veterinarian.
