Description

Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery within the University of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting for a full‑time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (ARNP/PA-C) position at the rank of Teaching Associate with an estimated start date in Summer 2026. Faculty may engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12‑month service period (July 1‑June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.

Faculty with 12‑month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12‑month period (July‑June), meaning one month is available for paid time off.

Compensation

The base salary range for the position is $10,834–$15,391 per month ($130,008–$184,692 annually), commensurate with years of experience as a licensed ARNP or PA. This range includes base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to the University base salary. Other compensation may include payments for vacancy coverage or premiums for factors such as acuity, nights, and call, should they apply to service.

Only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation from UWP may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be incorporated into the inpatient team caring for emergency general surgery patients primarily at the UW Medical Center Northwest campus and, as needed, for post‑hospital follow‑up. The faculty appointment includes teaching of residents and medical students. This is an opportunity to work within an academic teaching hospital with a multidisciplinary team in the care for both elective and urgent/emergent general surgical patients.

There are no overnight shifts and no call coverage.

Qualifications
  • Current graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Valid Washington State licensure
  • DEA licensure required upon credentialing
  • ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to adapt with urgent and emergent patient care needs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for the teaching environment
  • Prior perioperative and/or inpatient hospital experience
