Clinical Nurse Specialist

Headquarters – Tumwater, WA

Annual Salary Range: $117,924 - $193,248

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Clinical Nurse Specialist to work within the Health Services Division. The position will be located at DOC HQ's. Normal work hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00-5:30pm with occasional flexibility needed for travel and business meetings away from HQ's.

The work of this position contributes directly to the vision, mission and strategic goals of the Department of Corrections. Striving for excellence in nursing, supports the core correctional operations, focuses on the development and success of the workforce, increases the health and safety of Incarcerated Individuals who are preparing to successfully re-enter the community, and improves our practices and performance in Health Services, Prisons and Community Corrections.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a clinical resource for nursing practices.
  • Leads in the development and delivery of professional nursing education designed to promote excellence in clinical nursing skills appropriate for a correctional environment.
  • Consults and works collaboratively with other clinical disciplines and operational management.
  • Liaison with community colleges and universities to develop and support student mentorships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
  • Initial and continuous unencumbered Licensure in the state of Washington as a Registered Nurse.
  • An unencumbered Multi-State Licensure from a participating Compact Licensure State and completions of the MLS demographic study.
  • At least five (5) years of recent acute clinical experience working as a Registered Nurse; one (1) year experience in a correctional, jail, or juvenile setting. At least three (3) years of which, in a successful progressive management level position.
  • Proficient with computer-based programs to track patient information, perform data entry, word processing, and communication via email.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent verbal skills to coordinate with hospitals, jails, DOC staff and community providers.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted license to provide nursing in Washington. Possess and maintain a Basic Life Support license from American Heart Association.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize various teaching methods to meet the learning needs of professional nurses.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • A master’s degree is preferred from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a correctional or jail setting.
  • Two years’ experience in UM and/or case management.
