In addition to the complex stroke cases, we manage life-threatening emergencies which include: intracranial hypertension, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, acute ischemic stroke, meningitis and encephalitis, status epilepticus, spinal cord compression, traumatic brain injury, and traumatic spine injury

****** HARDSTOP - require 2 years of ICU experience, redirect if less than 2 years Screen if no travel experience SPECIAL PROCEDURES:
Our Neuro Critical Care Unit is part of a comprehensive stroke center and Level IV Epilepsy center that treats the most complex stroke cases and other neurological emergencies for the Greater Washington area and surrounding States. Our facility case mixed index for our unit is 3.9 and the Cherry Hill Campus, as a while case mix index ranks it in the top 10 highest acuity in the nation.
Patients from all over the U.S. and world come to our renowned facility to receive treatments that require neurosurgical interventions. Our unit is staffed with Neuro-Intensivists, hospitalists and Advanced Practice providers on days and nights. We have a dedicated Neuroscience Clinical Nurse Specialist to foster your knowledge, a Professional Development Specialist to help you integrate to our practice and a Clinical Supervisor and Nurse Manager who are committed to making the NCCU a recognized team on the regional and national level.
The unit is divided into 3 geographical units (NCCU East, North & South). NCCU South is currently closed. All RNs on this campus must wear navy blue scrubs. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT:
Our unit includes state of the art equipment to manage these neurological emergencies from advanced ICP monitoring, non-invasive cardiac output monitoring, hemodialysis, mechanical ventilation, normothermia and hypothermia management, and continuous VEEG monitoring SKILLS Work Settings:
- Neuro Intensive Care Unit (preferred) Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response (REQUIRED) - Interpretation of dysrhythmias - Management of dysrhythmias IV therapy (REQUIRED) - Central line care/management - Starting IVs MEDICATIONS (REQUIRED) - Continuous IV sedation - Titrate Cardiac drips Neurological (REQUIRED) - CVA/Acute Stroke management - External ventricular drains (EVD) - Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun - ICP monitoring - Post Neurosurgery management - Spinal cord injury - Traumatic Brain injury Respiratory/Thoracic (REQUIRED) - Care of Ventilated Patient - Ventilator Management
REQUIRED:
Experience with Hypothermia Protocol and Spinal Cord Injury Screen if does not have dedicated Neuro Unit exp. Documentation System (REQUIRED) - EPIC CERTS:
- BCLS, ACLS, & NIH (REQUIRED) - CCRN, CNRN (PREFERRED)
