Job Description
University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced acute care Nurse Manager to work on our Cardiology/Cardiothoracic unit.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION5NE, our Cardiology/Cardiothoracic unit, is a 30-bed unit, with computerized arrhythmia monitoring, that cares for patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass graft, valve replacement and repair, heart transplant, lung transplant, and lung resection surgeries. We also care for patients with pacemakers, LVADs, general cardiology concerns, and following invasive procedures for arrhythmias.
WORK SCHEDULE- Full Time / 100% FTE
- Primarily day shifts Monday-Friday, with additional hours as needed
- Provide dynamic leadership to a team of 90+ staff, including Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants
- Foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and teamwork through coaching, mentorship, and shared leadership
- Ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care consistent with current best practices
- Monitor patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization to maintain efficiency in a fast‑paced hospital environment
- Maintain compliance with state, federal, and accreditors’ regulations
- Lead and participate in quality initiatives, performance improvement efforts, and root cause analyses
- Support onboarding, education, and continuous learning
- Counsel employees and utilize the disciplinary process when appropriate
- Promote a culture of safety by actively identifying risks, addressing patient and staff concerns, and participating in incident investigations
- Monitor department budget, and manage staffing ratios, supply usage, and equipment needs
- Propose cost‑effective strategies that support quality patient care
- Serve as a liaison between frontline staff, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
- 6 years of clinical experience, including at least 1 year of lead/management/supervisory experience in an inpatient medical setting
