APP / Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – MICU
Hospital:
Harborview Medical Center – the region’s only Level I Trauma and verified burn center, operated by UW Medicine.
Position:
Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
$10,000 Sign‑on Bonus for eligible new part‑time and full‑time employees joining UW Medicine.
Work Schedule- 90% FTE (36 hours per week)
- 12‑hour shifts, including some nights, week‑ends and holidays
The APP will work under the supervision of the attending physician and collaborate with physicians in post‑graduate training programs (residents and fellows in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine).
Patient PopulationCritically ill patients with complex medical, surgical or neurological problems – respiratory failure, ARDS (including extracorporeal life support), sepsis, cardiac arrest and complications of chronic medical conditions.
Responsibilities- Admit new patients (write admission notes, develop initial assessments/plans, place admission orders in EMR)
- Provide frontline coverage for admitted patients (cross‑cover/manage patients admitted by other providers, daytime or nighttime)
- Participate in daily morning and afternoon rounds (present updated clinical information and problem‑based plan on multidisciplinary ICU rounds, complete daily rounding checklist, enter orders, document, etc.)
- Daily management of ICU patients (evaluate and manage, write daily progress notes, formulate and implement plans of care, communicate with consultants, update families/caregivers, collaborate with multidisciplinary team)
- Facilitate transitions of care to other service lines (documentation and hand‑off for discharge from ICU to acute care, skilled nursing facilities, surgical/anesthesia services for OR cases)
- Participate in family meetings and discussions of goals of care as a member of the critical‑care team
- Participate in critical‑care outreach activities (respond to “Code Blue”, Rapid Responses, support other ICU services with high clinical loads)
- Potential to work in other ICUs within HMC as needed (e.g., Neurocritical Care)
- Assist or perform bedside procedures (central venous catheters, arterial lines, thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, point‑of‑care ultrasound, etc.) under attending supervision
- Participate in research, quality improvement (QI) projects and QI meetings; contribute to or initiate projects that lead to measurable improvements and scholarly output (presentations, publications)
- Mentorship available from faculty and staff
- Attendance and participation in educational conferences
- Nurse Practitioner:
- Masters or Doctorate in nursing from an accredited school
- Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges
- National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Physician Assistant:
- Licensure as a Physician Assistant in Washington State
- National certification (NCCPA)
- BLS/ACLS certification required
- Eligible for hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the Organized Medical Staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By‑Laws.

Compensation & BenefitsPay Range: $125,028 – $195,576 annually.
Other Compensation: $4.50/hr nights, $/hr week‑ends, relocation incentive if applicable.
