BACKGROUND

One America (OA) was established in 2001 by U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal and has since grown to become a locally and nationally recognized leader in advancing immigrant, civil, and human rights. We utilize grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and civic/electoral engagement to promote justice in three areas: immigration, education and early learning, and democracy. Our family of organizations consists of One America (501(c)3), One America Votes (OA) (501(c)4), One America Votes Justice Fund (State PAC), and One America Votes Justice for All Fund (Federal PAC).

OA envisions a peaceful world where every person’s human rights and dignity are respected, where communities appreciate differences and stand together for justice and equality, and where each person contributes to the common good. All of our work is grounded in our Theory of Change and guided by the conviction that people directly impacted should lead our movement for justice because they are best equipped to create real solutions that build lasting power.

Grassroots immigrant leaders (our base) drive priorities across our organization.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

One America is seeking an outgoing and driven individual to join our team as a Volunteer and Field Coordinator. This person will be responsible for training and launching allies and community members into the field to participate in our deep listening canvass and phone bank program. In 2025, One America launched the program across King, Yakima, and Clark Counties. With this launch, we found that immigrants and the broader multiracial working class are hungry to build power within their own communities.

The person in this role will have the opportunity to build on and scale the work as we continue to grow our program in 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Cultivation and Coordination (50%)

  • Build a base of active volunteers who are consistently attending phone banks and canvasses through regular outreach to our lists via phone calls, texts, and meetings
  • Cultivate a set of super volunteers who are moving on a ladder of engagement to run canvasses, volunteer orientations, and phone banks on their own through training and mentorship
  • Attend community events to build relationships and bring new people into OA
  • Manage clear, direct, and regular communication to active and prospective volunteers
  • Canvass 1x per week with King County Organizers and their base of members

Event Planning and Execution (35%)

  • Plan and execute weekly volunteer phone banks
  • Design and carry out one volunteer canvass per month
  • Create bi-weekly volunteer orientations that train volunteers in our method of deep listening and drive new volunteers into our field events
  • Drive turnout from the volunteer base and overall organization to weekly phone banks, monthly canvases, and bi-weekly volunteer orientations

Administrative (15%)

  • Develop and manage a volunteer management system within OA’s CRM
  • Update the volunteer orientation materials consistently
  • Regularly update phone bank and canvass scripts
  • Schedule, create, and manage meetings for orientations and phone banks
  • Drive communication pre-and post-events to attendees
