The Coordinator will be a member of the Community Service and Response team and will play a key role in strengthening King County’s engagement, service, and response efforts by building and managing a countywide volunteer program. This position will recruit, train, mobilize, and support volunteers to advance community outreach, events, youth and civic engagement, and other county priorities.

The Coordinator will ensure that volunteer efforts are aligned with the needs of communities, responsive to emerging issues, and reflective of the County’s values of equity, accessibility, and community engagement. This is a highly relational, community-facing role that will work with community organizations and leaders, neighborhoods, and fellow members of the Community Service and Response team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a countywide volunteer program aligned with the Executive’s community service and response priorities.
  • Recruit and train volunteers, ensuring a diverse and inclusive volunteer base that reflects the communities we serve.
  • Maintain active relationships with community-based organizations and leaders, schools, service partners, and civic groups to support volunteer recruitment and deployment.
  • Coordinate volunteer assignments for community outreach, events, and targeted initiatives across the county.
  • Build and manage systems for volunteer communication, scheduling, tracking, and recognition.
  • Support countywide events by identifying and deploying appropriate volunteer resources.
  • Serve as a key connector between volunteers, community partners, and other staff in the Office of Community Service & Response.
  • Ensure volunteers are trained in responsive engagement practices and are equipped to represent the County with integrity and professionalism.
  • Help develop program policies, safety protocols, and performance measures.
Expectations
  • A focus on being out in the county to connect and build relationships with those we serve and those with whom we partner.
  • In the office a minimum of 3 days a week. Meetings may not have a call-in option for required in-person days, and the expectation is to be in the office.
  • Be on time, respectful of others’ time, and responsive when needed.
  • Bring an urgency to the work. We will start fast. The work will be intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding.
  • Meetings will have written expectations, including an agenda with the goals and outcomes. Owners and next steps will be clear.
  • Processes and work will continuously improve.
Values
  • Serve with integrity.
  • Show initiative and work hard.
  • Prioritize outcomes over optics.
  • Center those most impacted and put “boots on the ground.”
  • Resolve challenges with a “yes, and” mindset.
  • Work as one, adaptable, mission-driven team.
