Job Title:
Set Up Machinist
We are seeking an experienced Set Up Machinist to join our advanced CNC prototype and job shop. This role is critical to our high-mix, varying-volume operations, requiring precision setup work on CNC mills and lathes to support our diverse manufacturing needs.
Responsibilities- Set up and prepare CNC mills and lathes for production runs following detailed setup sheets.
- Interpret and execute complex engineering drawings with a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices.
- Verify machine calibration and perform first article inspections.
- Make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances.
- Document setup procedures and maintain accurate records in our Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Collaborate with programmers and operators to optimize setups for efficiency and quality.
- Troubleshoot setup-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety protocols.
- 6 years of hands‑on experience setting up CNC mills or lathes in a production environment.
- Expert‑level knowledge of GDT and ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Proven ability to follow setup sheets and work instructions accurately.
- Experience with MES systems for job tracking and documentation.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and fixturing methods.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMM.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding setups.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a prototype or job shop environment.
- Familiarity with multiple machine brands and control systems like Fanuc, Haas, and Mazak.
- Basic CNC programming knowledge.
- Experience with 5-axis or mill‑turn machining setups.
- Training in 5S methodology and experience working in a 5S‑compliant shop environment.

Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a machine shop environment in Seattle, WA, with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metalworking fluids. Safety glasses and appropriate PPE are required at all times. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:15 am to 2:45 pm.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $39.00/hr.
