Job Title: CAD Technician
DURATION: 11 MONTHS
LOCATION: ONSTIE IN SEATTLE WA
We are seeking an experienced Set Up Machinist to join our advanced CNC prototype and job shop. This role is critical to our high‑mix, varying‑volume operations, requiring precision setup work on CNC mills and lathes to support our diverse manufacturing needs.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and prepare CNC mills and lathes for production runs following detailed setup sheets.
- Interpret and execute complex engineering drawings with a strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work‑holding devices.
- Verify machine calibration and perform first article inspections.
- Make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances.
- Document setup procedures and maintain accurate records in our MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
- Collaborate with programmers and operators to optimize setups for efficiency and quality.
- Troubleshoot setup‑related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following safety protocols.
- 6+ years of hands‑on experience setting up CNC mills or lathes in a production environment.
- Expert‑level knowledge of GD&T and ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Proven ability to follow setup sheets and work instructions accurately.
- Experience with MES systems for job tracking and documentation.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and fixturing methods.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM).
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding setups.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience in a prototype or job shop environment.
- Familiarity with multiple machine brands and control systems (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.).
- Basic CNC programming knowledge.
- Experience with 5‑axis or mill‑turn machining setups.
- Training in 5S methodology and experience working in a 5S‑compliant shop environment.
This position operates in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal‑working fluids. Safety glasses and appropriate PPE are required at all times.
