Overview
Ash Grove Cement, part of the CRH family, is a leading North American cement manufacturer with operations including 12 cement plants and 41 terminals across the United States and Canada. This position is based at Ash Grove Cement's Seattle plant and supports a heavy industrial mechanical environment.

Maintenance Specialist
Reports to:
Maintenance Supervisor
Shift: 4 x 10, 5am to 3:30pm, Mon-Thurs or Tue-Fri
Pay: $40.07 per hour
Location:
Seattle plant
You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for every mechanical system in a heavy industrial environment at the Seattle plant. Responsibilities include major mill overhauls, conveying equipment, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, new installations, and providing support for various plant needs. Work is performed primarily as part of a team, with opportunities to work solo on certain projects. Training is provided for all duties.
A willingness to learn and a positive attitude are required. Overtime and rotating callouts may be required.
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines
- Rebuild, repair, remove and install components including gear boxes, pneumatic cylinders, air slides, valves, compressors, screw conveyors, hydraulic equipment, raw mill, finish mill, kiln, and related systems
- Welding, fabrication, layout, pipe fitting and plumbing
- Installation and alignment of critical equipment for reliable operation
- Documentation and follow-up on repairs and equipment deficiencies entered into CMS
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- ISO 14001 training plan — become familiar with and participate in initial and annual ISO 14001 requirements
- MSHA policies — mechanical specialist must be familiar with MSHA part 46 safety and training policies
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Knowledge of mechanical procedures and techniques (rigging, machinery alignment, bearing and seal replacement, lubrication, and reconditioning for overhaul or preventive maintenance)
- Skilled in welding and fabrication
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings and diagrams for mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Arithmetic skills including algebra and geometry
- Ability to read, interpret and follow instructional and maintenance manuals
- Communication and problem-solving skills
- Preferred:
Associate’s degree or equivalent in a technical area of mechanical repair and maintenance - Preferred: two years of maintenance/mechanical work experience in a similar industrial environment
- Knowledge of maintenance machine shop and millwright procedures
- Experience in a cement production facility
- Documented training in relevant equipment (examples: pneumatic pumps, compressors, gearboxes, alignment, rigging, etc.)
- Experience with various mobile equipment (man lifts, forklifts, cranes, skid steers, etc.)
Work may be performed in a shop and outdoors within the plant. Physical requirements include walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise; safety procedures must be followed. Possible exposure to heights up to 250 feet and varying weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may involve jarring and vibratory exposure.
