Job Description
Job SummaryOversees and maintains an effective fleet maintenance/repair program that prolongs the life and ensures safe operation of all CP equipment. Performs supervisory and technical work in vehicle and equipment mechanics as needed; ensuring inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs are performed in a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Serves as subject matter expert on fleet maintenance and repairs.
- Identify fleet maintenance issues or trends; anticipate problems and implement solutions.
- Plans, schedules, and prioritizes fleet maintenance activities; delegating to shop foreman
- Trains, coaches, and develops staff skill on proper repairs and maintenance.
- Reviews the repairs of assigned staff to assure quality and timely completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Provides aid, as needed, when troubles arise on the road – finds qualified service to repair downed vehicle, obtains competitive bids for repairs, body work, etc.
- Work with drivers to enable them to operate specialized equipment properly.
- Update all specifications when equipment changes are necessary.
- Implements and maintains a mechanic training and certification program to provide needed technical skills for mechanics in repair or automobiles and heavy equipment.
- Reviews work orders and purchase orders for accuracy.
- Create daily, weekly, monthly queries for data collection.
- Review invoices for approval process and proper asset allocation.
- Occasional travel to pick up parts or meet with vendors.
- Ensure conformance with vehicle manufacture’s service recommendations and bulletins.
- Manage GPS tracking for fault codes to identify mechanical failures
- Ensure proper working conditions and shop and vehicle safety practices are followed.
- Purchases of shop equipment.
- File warranty claims, warranty logs
- Maintain parts department, inventory levels to company standards.
- Comply with all OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Involved in recruitment strategies.
- Support other branches with parts acquisition and mechanical breakdowns of equipment.
- Create internal campaigns/recalls for fleet standardization.
- Research and develop parts and repairs for fleet.
- Other project as requested by the management team.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fleet Management or high school diploma plus course work in auto and equipment mechanics at a trade school.
- 5 years fleet and material handling equipment experience.
- 5 years of mechanical experience.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
- Considerable knowledge of safety practices and techniques in mechanics; considerable knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics; considerable knowledge of vehicle make‑up.
- Knowledge of Safety Practices and DOT Regulations.
- Knowledge of an automated Fleet Management Information System (Manager+)
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to function and perform effectively as a manager and supervisor
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of skilled, semi‑skilled, and unskilled employees engaged in repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed;
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions in English.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Good attendance and punctuality a must.

Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
