POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Veterinary & Community Programs Director, the Clinic Manager is responsible for overseeing a clinic team that serves over 12,000 animals annually through shelter and community services. They are a key organizational leader, responsible for thought leadership and collaboration with the Veterinary team leadership and ensuring entire Vet Services team execute protocols, procedures, patient care, and support for pet owners appropriately.

The Clinic Manager should be equally skilled in technical abilities and managing a large and dynamic team. The Seattle Humane Clinic Manager is excited about animal welfare, High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter (HQHVSN) practices, and increasing access to veterinary care in our community.

KEY OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leadership
  • Drives innovation and sustainable growth through identifying best practices and collaborating with the broader Seattle Humane team to implement mission driven change
  • Follows patient care and shelter protocols and ensures compliance from staff.
  • Communicates in a professional and effective manner with the public, Seattle Humane staff, and volunteers.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with local veterinary technician and assistant training programs to promote hiring and arrange and oversee externship opportunities with SH.
  • Exemplifies teamwork within the Veterinary Services team and across Seattle Humane departments.
  • Responsible for success of clinic staff, consisting of Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, Clinic Associates, and Clinic Coordinators
  • Checks in regularly with staff, elevates concerns promptly and professionally as needed to Clinic Manager.
  • Conducts disciplinary meetings and maintains related documentation.
  • Seeks opportunities to support staff in specialization opportunities and skill development.
  • In collaboration with Clinic Supervisors, oversees volunteers
    • Monitors volunteers to ensure they are following organization and department policies and procedures and to maintain high standards of customer service and animal care
    • Provides feedback, documentation, and discipline of volunteers in coordination with Volunteer Services.
    • Maintains a high level of communication with the Volunteer Services team regarding volunteer job positions and departmental recruiting needs
Clinic Oversight
  • Manages the daily flow of the clinic to ensure established priorities are met
  • Able to perform all roles of support staff as needed.
  • Ensure the clinic and all equipment is well maintained.
  • Capable of performing upon time of hire or ability to learn all skills of staff and fill in for all roles as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, caring for critical patients, independently providing medical care as assigned by a DVM, working with patients with infectious disease, leading a surgery team that sees 20-50 patients per day, and responding to emergencies.
  • Responsible for all purchase orders (POs) for department spending, inventory, and ordering of department supplies to ensure adequate stock. Performs year-end full-stock inventories, carries out regularly scheduled stock checks and controls.
  • Maintains accurate files and records, especially pertaining to medical, surgical and euthanasia records. Adheres to the files and records retention policy and procedures of organization.
  • Maintains compliance with any safety, health and labor regulations.
Access to Care
  • Supports the overall function of Seattle Humane’s on-site Community Clinic
  • Provide compassionate and professional support to clients seeking services, maintaining a judgement‑free and trauma‑informed approach
  • Support Seattle Humane’s efforts in increasing access to care in underserved areas through outreach clinics and collaborating with external agencies
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
  • Works closely with all departments and communicates effectively regarding the medical needs of shelter animals.
  • Works closely with other Operations departments to provide training as relates to veterinary care.
  • Promotes a positive, supportive, and cooperative work environment based on mutual respect and open communication
  • All other duties as assigned.
