This position directly reports to the Washington Veterans Home Administrator.
This is a key position that leads the Facility Management Team to perform all support operations at the Washington Veterans Home. Facility Management supports nursing and dietary functions. This position directly supports achieving the agency’s mission of Serving Those Who Served by meeting the facility and resident needs through the leadership of multiple facility operations including Building Maintenance, Power House, Ground Maintenance (including Cemetery Internment Services), Custodial Services, Laundry Services, and Transportation.
This includes determining direction and deployment in each area to complete specific departmental objectives while meeting regulatory requirements, supporting facility goals.
The expected work hours for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be some overtime required for various operations, such as fire drills and emergency callouts. This position is exempt from overtime.
Updated as of July 1, 2025:This position is eligible for Supplement Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours.
The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.
The Facilities Manager is the organizational expert in all Safety and Life Safety matters ensuring the facility meets all regulatory requirements. In this capacity the Facilities Manager is the Washington Veterans Home Safety Officer and an active member of the Safety Committee.
Some of what you’ll do:- Directly manages or provides oversight for the management of Facility Management departments to ensure delivery of facility services, including Laundry, Custodial, Grounds, Power House, Medical and other Transportation as well as trades services to meet resident and program needs.
- Troubleshoots, directs repairs, contracts outside services, and/or performs repair to remedy facility problems with creative solutions. Prioritizes work to ensure critical infrastructure issues and remedy at earliest point of intervention to minimize impact on the facility.
- Manages budget and FTEs within allocations, making decisions to ensure overtime and expenditure remain within overall department constraints.
- Performs regular inspections of building, ground and equipment for proactive repair and maintenance scheduling and deployment of available resources. Creates systems and tools to support the organized management of work orders, records management and preventative maintenance.
- Determines needs and assigns staff to assure continuous operation and appropriate deployment of available resources resulting in overall successful plan operations for efficient facilities operations.
- Oversees facility capital projects, from justification process to completion, working closely with assigned architect, GA Project Manager, Agency Capital Projects Manager and facilities stakeholders.
- Ensures all fire and life safety codes are enforced to protect residents and staff. Proactively implements improvements to increase fire and life safety. Maintains all mandatory fire drill and fire system inspection records and required.
