King County Metro Transit’s Facilities Division is hiring multiple Transit Facilities Specialist II (Transit Custodian II) positions. The role involves heavy industrial cleaning of transit bases, maintenance facilities, and other Metro Transit properties and structures.

Recruitment InformationRecruitment may immediately fill two (2) Transit Facilities Specialist II Career Service positions and create an eligibility pool for future vacancies, including term-limited temporary and special duty assignments valid up to twelve (12) months.
Who May ApplyOpen to all current King County employees and the public. First, qualified Transit Facilities Specialist I employees will be considered; if none apply, the position is open to all qualified internal and external candidates.
Job Duties- Contain and clean up fuel and/or oil spills.
- Steam clean and/or pressure-wash drains, trenches, and subsurface maintenance areas.
- Steam clean and/or pressure-wash restrooms and shop walls up to 40 feet high using lift equipment and fall protection.
- Clean and sanitize elevators, lunchrooms, and restrooms (tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks, walls, offices).
- Scrub and buff floors (concrete, tile, vinyl, granite, marble).
- Sweep, clear snow/ice, and clean facility perimeters.
- Set up, take down, and arrange furniture.
- Dust, wash, and vacuum surfaces; clean glass windows; remove graffiti.
- Empty trash dumpsters and containers with or without a forklift.
- Request, stock supplies; maintain lunchrooms and restrooms.
- Operate equipment safely (vacuum, buffer, carpet cleaner, floors scrubber, shop vac, steam cleaner, pressure washer, bucket truck).
- Ensure proper care and operation of equipment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Drive a county vehicle when necessary.
- Respond to sanitization requests when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year or more of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial work, including motorized floor scrubbers and pressure-washing equipment.
- Basic oral and written communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of industrial cleaning techniques in a shop or heavy maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of proper chemical use and disposal.
- Ability to read, follow, and handle cleaning supplies per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks (mopping, cleaning toilets, sweeping).
- Skill in dealing proactively and sensitively with customers.
- Ability to accept direct supervision and follow written or verbal directions.
- Skill in working with diverse individuals.
- Ability to maintain a standardized work pace and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated reliable and timely attendance.
- Three (3) or more years of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial work including motorized floor scrubbers and pressure-washing equipment.
Special Requirements
- A valid Washington State driver’s license is required. Out-of-state license holders must obtain a WA license within 30 days of hire.
