CoreObjectives
- Attorney and Staff Assistance. Provide support to attorneys and staff in the Family Law Department.
- Client Experience. Execute and meet project deadlines to support the client experience in the Family Law Department.
- Firm Initiatives. Supports Firm initiatives by providing assistance with tasks and projects, as directed by the position’s Supervisor.
What follows is a sample list of responsibilities in this role. This list is not intended to be exclusive but will identify some typical day-to-day tasks and projects.
Attorney and Staff Assistance- Work directly with your Supervisor, along with collaborating with others, to complete assigned projects and meet the assigned deadline(s).
- Follow internal procedures and processes to complete assigned projects and meet deadlines.
- Accurately process electronic and paper documents (case discovery), which includes reviewing, organizing, and indexing documents and evidence related to a case into the Firm’s e-discovery platform.
- Providing discovery-related assistance including starting pleadings and other documents.
- Providing assistance in preparation for trials, mediations and settlement conferences.
- Assist team members with preparing files to be closed, prepare post-judgment or post-agreement checklists for clients and Attorneys, including but not limited to preserving discovery in e-discovery platform and archiving of file.
- Conduct research and pull statutes and rules.
- Conduct research using various platforms to locate potential assets or information (real property TRIOs, Secretary of State business searches, on-line searches, prior criminal and civil case histories, etc.)
- Maintain working knowledge of the status of discovery.
- Assist with case coverage during Paralegal/Senior Paralegal absences.
- Assist clients by troubleshooting questions/problems related to uploading documents to the e-discovery platform.
- Communicating directly with clients and other professionals, verbally and in writing, to assist in providing case-related documents.
- Working directly with clients to complete forms and pleadings.
- Providing support to assist with firm goals and objectives being met in a timely manner.
- Use program timers to accurate track time spent on project and enter time into billing system each day.
- Assist in training and implementation of technology systems for Family Law Department (i.e., e-discovery platform)
- Participate in internal education opportunities, development trainings, and department meetings.
- Represent the Firm in legal and community events and activities.
- Participate in Firm committees, events, and socials.
- Position prefers, but does not require, a bachelor’s degree.
- Understanding of various financial documents and what they mean.
- Preference will be given to a candidate with experience in a private law firm.
- Ability to exercise and maintain a high level of confidentiality, discretion, judgment, and professionalism.
- Dedicated, positive, committed team player, but with ability to work independently as well.
- Must be detail-oriented, able to think critically and set high standards for accuracy in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required with adaptability and the ability to change plans as needed.
- Possess effective and professional communication abilities, both verbally and in writing, in order to accurately and efficiently execute projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects by self-prioritizing and follow-through in a fast-paced team environment and remain calm under stress.
- Must exhibit commitment to integrity and excellence.
- Comfortable developing interpersonal relationships with Attorneys and staff members.
- Must have demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams.
- Comfortable with technology and able to quickly learn new tools to include:
Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Power Point, - Adobe, Metro Fax, Caret Legal, and Net Documents and e-discovery platforms.
