. These pivotal roles offer the opportunity to provide expert legal guidance on a diverse range of matters shaping Koror State’s governance and future.
$60,000 annually depending on qualifications.

OTHER BENEFITS:Legal Counsel to the Koror State Legislature:
Monthly housing allowance of $9,600.00 annually, paid round-trip transportation, and shipment of household and personal effects up to $800 each way. Sick leave, annual leave, vehicle, 50% co-payment for cell phone plan, and medical insurance.
Legal Counsel to the Koror State Governor and Executive Branch:Annual leave, sick leave, option for affordable supplemental health insurance, fifty percent (50%) co-payment for cell phone plan, transportation from and back to point of hire, plus either free government housing or a housing stipend.
LOCATION:Koror State Capital, Koror State, Republic of Palau.
DURATION:Full time, working onsite at an office location.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Legal Counsel to the Koror State Governor and Executive Branch:
As Legal Counsel for the Koror State Governor and Executive Branch, you will be at the forefront, delivering crucial legal expertise directly to the Executive Branch. Under the Governor’s and Department Heads’ guidance, you will tackle a unique portfolio, including:
- Assisting Enforcement: You will be the driving force behind all Koror State criminal citations issued by the State Rangers. This includes collaborating with the Department of Conservation and Law Enforcement, diving into police reports, crafting criminal complaints (infractions and misdemeanors only), and prosecuting these actions through every stage.
- Shaping Development: Partner with the Koror State Planning Commission to enforce laws, ensuring responsible growth through permitting and related legal matters.
- Guiding Others in Koror State: Serve as a trusted advisor on executive branch employee matters, upholding the Employee Manual, navigating disciplinary actions, and providing essential counsel.
- Impacting Across the Board: You will conduct legal research, draft vital documents (memos, legislation, regulations, and correspondence), assist colleagues, and even handle civil litigation as needed. Plus, you will tackle any other legal tasks assigned by the Governor and Department Heads, making a real difference across the government.
The successful candidate will provide legal services to the Koror State Legislature. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The drafting and analysis of legislation, the preparation of legal opinions on the interpretation and constitutionality of provisions of existing law or of proposed legislation, attendance at legislative committee hearings, preparing committee reports, consulting and providing advice to legislators, drafting memoranda and other official communications, legal opinions, and letters as well as working with state departments and national ministries, constituents, and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will also be a strong writer with proven analytical abilities and an ability to work under deadlines. The position calls for an individual who has a hard working, friendly, relaxed, and professional approach to dealing with people. On occasion, the Legal Counsel will be expected to attend meetings at night or during weekends.
