Product Manager III, Analytics Platform Introduction to the Team

We’re seeking a Product Manager III to drive and support our Analytics Platform strategy, leading the evolution and delivery of cutting‑edge analytics capabilities across our Expedia Group. You’ll combine strategic guidance with hands‑on collaboration alongside engineering, analytics, and our partner teams to enhance our analytics platforms, drive adoption, and create significant business impact.

In this role, you will:
  • Own the SQL Engines vision and roadmap for the Analytics Platform, spanning Starburst, Druid, Star Rocks, and adjacent technologies.
  • Understand the customer landscape and identify common analytical and serving needs across Expedia Group (e.g., interactive BI, high concurrency exploration, Realtime dashboards, sub‑second APIs).
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Data & Analytics, Product, and Engineering to translate their needs into a clear, transparent roadmap for SQL engines and related platform capabilities.
  • Research new technologies, features and patterns in the query engine and OLAP ecosystem, and drive innovation through technical assessments, benchmarks, and proofs of concept.
  • Collect and refine functional and non‑functional requirements (e.g., latency, concurrency, SLAs, cost, governance) from customers across the organization, ensuring they are clearly articulated and actionable.
  • Define and track key success metrics for SQL engines (e.g., adoption, query performance, reliability, cost efficiency, user satisfaction) and use them to inform prioritization and continuous improvement.
  • Own vendor and partner relationships (e.g., Starburst and other engine vendors): manage roadmaps, licensing and feature requests; coordinate joint troubleshooting and performance tuning; and ensure value for money.
  • Collaborate with Platform Engineering teams to align engine priorities with infrastructure, security, and operational capabilities, ensuring clear sequencing and trade‑off decisions.
  • Take a leading role in design discussions, challenging assumptions where needed, and advocating for simplicity, scalability, and long‑term maintainability.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong data and technical background, particularly in SQL engines, OLAP databases or distributed query platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience or deep familiarity with at least some of:
Starburst / Trino / Presto, Apache Druid, Star Rocks (or similar MPP / real‑time OLAP engines).
  • Understanding of query performance, indexing, caching, partitioning, and cost/performance trade‑offs in large‑scale analytics environments.
  • Experience working with cloud‑based data and analytics platforms (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, streaming platforms).
  • Proven ability to assemble business requirements and translate them into detailed, prioritized functional and non‑functional specifications in an Agile setting, including clear Minimum Viable Products.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a product or major feature set within a service or multi‑service BI or data platform, working with engineering teams on system design (including APIs and data modeling) and iterative delivery.
