Applied Scientist, Denied Party Screening, AWS Compliance & Security Assurance
Amazon is seeking an Applied Scientist to join the Denied Party Screening team within AWS Security. The role focuses on building ML/AI models to detect prohibited transactions and deny entities, scaling to over a billion events daily.
Key Responsibilities- Drive research, design, and development of novel ML/AI models and systems powering critical products and services.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deeply understand business requirements, customer needs, and technical constraints.
- Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on ML/AI solutions, iterating quickly based on data and feedback.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and grow a team of talented ML scientists and engineers.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in AI/ML and identify opportunities to apply emerging techniques.
- Review the latest model performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Brainstorm new architectures and approaches with the cross‑functional team during a whiteboard session.
- Dive deep into a complex dataset, leveraging advanced AI techniques to uncover hidden insights.
- Prototype a new model and run experiments to optimize performance.
- Present findings and recommendations to product and engineering leaders.
- Mentor a junior data scientist, providing guidance on best practices.
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience.
- PhD, or Master’s degree and 4+ years of CS/CE/ML or related field experience.
- Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals.
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
- Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high‑performance computing.
- Experience using Unix/Linux.
- Experience in professional software development.
