Job #3021559 – Apex Systems is seeking a Project Manager who is motivated by variety, seeks a challenging environment for professional growth, and is interested in running large information technology projects. This position is Remote with the client located in the Seattle area.

Summary

The Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of the client’s Electric Service Request Application and Distributed Energy Resource Interconnection Platform project. The initiative includes implementing a modern customer‑facing intake and workflow platform (e.g., Accela, Power Clerk, Grid Unity) to support electric service requests and DER interconnections, and integrating with other utility systems such as Work and Asset Management, GIS, and Customer Billing System.

The Manager will oversee scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, and coordination with the contracted Vendor and System Integrator, acting as the client’s primary project representative while working closely with internal business, IT, OT, cybersecurity, and customer service stakeholders to meet utility standards, regulatory requirements, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the ESAP project through the entire lifecycle – administration, monitoring, and controlling.
  • Create and manage comprehensive project plans, schedules, resource management plans, and budgets.
  • Manage cross‑functional teams, including customer operations, IT, cybersecurity, and vendors.
  • Collaborate closely with the vendor and system integrator to ensure technical deliverables meet business needs.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies, change management, and communications plans and processes.
  • Ensure alignment with the client’s PMO standards and practices.
  • Proactively manage risks and issues, documenting decisions and actions.
  • Regularly communicate and elevate project status, risks, and issues.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and regular project reports and presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Lead the initiation and planning of the ESAP project, including RFP or other approved SCL processes for identifying and procuring software/tools.
  • Finalize contract/SOW after vendor selection and oversee integration, testing, and cutover activities.
  • Develop business processes, requirements, and target solutions in partnership with stakeholders, vendors, and system integrators.
  • Develop project charter, project management plan (scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, procurement, stakeholders, risk), and manage implementation from start to finish.
  • Handle change requests and manage team and resource procurement.
  • Oversee quality assurance, testing (unit, performance, SIT, UAT), and ensure system availability and continuity.
  • Maintain security, compliance, and documentation practices consistent with the client’s standards.
  • Execute cutover planning, data conversion, and training material creation.
  • Hold the system integrator/vendor accountable for deliverables per the contract.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or related field; additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 7+ years of Project Management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing at least three utility customer‑facing application platforms or DER interconnection processes, including vendor‑led system implementations or upgrades.
  • Experience managing projects that required multiple system integrations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer‑facing capabilities, and proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project or equivalent project management tools.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection and other applicable guidelines.
