Position: Sr. Material Manager, Power & Cooling (PAC)

Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

Power & Cooling (PAC) team is seeking a results-oriented individual with strong business judgment skills and experience working with internal and external stakeholders to own material planning for Data Center Power & Cooling Equipment. Our Materials Planning Managers are high-energy self-starters that are excited to work across different functions to deliver power and cooling equipment to our data centers globally.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own projects through completion.

Key

responsibilities
  • The Materials Planning Manager is a single threaded leader who serves as the orchestrator of long-lead equipment (LLE) planning and delivery execution for AWS data centers. This role drives forecast accuracy, milestone tracking, and risk management to ensure timely data center delivery.
  • Demand Planning and Forecasting:
Develop and maintain a rolling three-year forecast for LLE, collaborating with business partners to capture evolving requirements. Manage schedule changes, track design modifications, validate net new demand, coordinate with design teams to align equipment specifications with construction timelines, and maintain a change management process for first-time-right implementations.
  • Milestone Management and Progress Tracking:
Own milestone tracking from forecast through design, funding, delivery, and commissioning. Proactively identify delays, aim for 100% milestone achievement, and escalate risks with appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Risk Management and Prioritization:
Track supplier delivery commitments against need-by dates, serve as an early warning system for schedule impacts, and drive build prioritization decisions with a dynamic risk register.
  • Post-Delivery Support and Issue Resolution:
Act as the primary escalation point for post-delivery challenges at construction sites, including quality concerns and resource constraints. Lead war room sessions as needed to resolve critical issues and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Success in this role directly impacts AWS's ability to deliver data centers on schedule, with performance measured by construction timelines and successful equipment installation. The role focuses on forecasting, milestone tracking, and risk mitigation rather than supplier negotiations and capacity management.
Day in the life
  • Communicate ideas concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders for purposes ranging from informative to needing approvals from executives.
  • Embodies a pioneering spirit, willing to “get your hands dirty” in a start-up environment while developing processes, automation, and delivering results.
  • Clearly define data requirements and metrics, and work with teams to implement the entire data flow from capture to presentation and management.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Keen on developing and training people to improve skills and capabilities for sustainable, continuous improvement.
