Principal Data Engineer
The responsibilities include:
- Architect, build and launch new data models that provide intuitive analytics to business users.
- Build and leverage state-of-the-art data access and alignment systems.
- Ensure the best possible data is utilized by the models used to help farmers understand the impacts of decisions on their farming operations.
- Rapidly prototype new data engineering solutions that support data science and analytics.
- Provide expert advice and education in the usage and interpretation of data systems.
- Creating cloud-native data pipelines to build data lake houses using Apache Iceberg and Apache Spark.
- Processing large scale datasets to enable batch processing and data analysis using ECS and RDS for Postgre
SQL. - Performing root cause analysis and optimizing data transformations and algorithms by generating time & memory profiling reports.
- Packaging and deploying data algorithms to production using Airflow, Docker and Gitlab CI/CD practices.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including product teams and data scientists, defining data requirements and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Enhancing petabyte‑scale data models in SQL using indexing and query optimization to support efficient data retrieval and processing in large‑scale databases.
- Developing data processing scripts, ETL processes, and automation tasks using Python.
- Processing and extracting features from geospatial shape files using Geo Pandas, Fiona and Shapely frameworks.
The qualifications include:
- A master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or a closely‑related technical field.
- Two years of experience designing and developing scalable and robust data architecture plans and/or systems for agronomic machine and geospatial data.
- Experience creating cloud-native data pipelines to build data lake houses using Apache Iceberg and Apache Spark.
- Experience processing large scale datasets to enable batch processing and data analysis using ECS and RDS for Postgre
SQL. - Experience performing root cause analysis and optimizing data transformations and algorithms by generating time & memory profiling reports.
- Experience packaging and deploying data algorithms to production using Airflow, Docker, and Gitlab CI/CD practices.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams, including product teams and data scientists.
- Experience enhancing petabyte‑scale data models in SQL using indexing and query optimization.
- Experience developing data processing scripts, ETL processes, and automation tasks using Python.
- Experience processing and extracting features from geospatial shape files using Geo Pandas, Fiona and Shapely frameworks.
- Ability to work in an environment that supports telecommuting up to two days per week from a home office location within reasonable commuting distance of Seattle, WA.
Candidates also may qualify with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of progressive post‑Bachelor’s experience.
Salary Range:
