Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The People and Culture business unit (human resources) is seeking to hire three interns for its Employee Relations, Performance and Policy team, and Systems & Analytics team. People and Culture employs a team of dynamic professionals who are committed to enhancing the employee experience by providing timely, accurate information, services and programs so that City Light employees can do their best work.

Employee Relations Intern
Our Employee Relations team is responsible for conducting timely workplace investigations into potential harassment, retaliation, discrimination, and workplace misconduct. They also navigate reasonable accommodations that fall within the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as federal, state, and city leave programs such as Family Medical Leave. This intern will own project(s) related to data programming, data analytics, and data visualization as well as process development.
They will have a focus on developing processes that help support our team to understand available data and its use in a way that can be sustained and support the utility. The ideal candidate has an interest in data management and development as well as a strong interest in Information Technology (IT).
The Performance and Policy Team is recruiting for a Performance Development Intern to join our team. The intern will own project(s) related to the function of performance evaluations, with a focus on research and development that enhances employee growth and ongoing feedback. This position will gain a strong background in both traditional and progressive performance development programs, strong foundational Human Resources knowledge in a public, unionized work environment, and contribute to the development of a new evaluation program for the Utility.
The ideal candidate has an educational interest in Human Resources and Performance Development, with an enthusiasm for research, process improvement, and employee experience.
Will support this mission by contributing to key digital transformation and process‑improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Sr. Systems & Analytics Analyst, the intern will help advance the Workforce Data Framework and process automation projects that improve access to information, reduce administrative burden, and enhance service delivery for City Light employees.
The primary deliverables include completing defined Workforce Data Hub pages and channels, developing an internal SCL HUB page, and supporting automation efforts for human resources processes. These outcomes directly support City Light’s strategic goals by improving workforce data transparency, modernizing internal systems, and enabling more efficient operations that benefit staff, the utility, and the community.

- Collecting data in a meaningful way and helping us to analyze it to identify trends within our workgroup that will be used to further support our ten‑year strategic plan regarding workplace culture.
- Data collection of both our investigatory work and our ADA/Leave work.
- Analyzing data to help us identify trends and patterns we have not identified.
- Creating processes that we can maintain going forward to help us better understand our culture with real-time metrics.
