Position: Director - HR (Global Containers) - Seattle, WA

Overview

Director - HR (Global Containers) – Seattle, Washington, United States

Location:

1131 SW Klickitat Way, Seattle, WA 98134, United States. This is a Hybrid role (combination of WFH and in-person work).

Responsibilities
  • Partner with leaders to develop and implement recruiting strategies, including creating job descriptions, posting jobs, creating offer letters, communication, and partnering with the compensation team to price the role.
  • Coordinate international transfers, housing and logistical support for relocating employees.
  • Collaborate with international HR partners to align and develop a global understanding.
  • Resolve cross-cultural differences and implement global training and development programs.
  • Partner with leadership to align HR strategy with international business objectives, manage change, and build local HR capacity.
  • Oversee change management within the HRIS system for managers, including pay changes, transfers, retirement, termination, ensuring all guidelines are followed.
  • Partner with HR Management to improve manager and employee performance by identifying problems, evaluating solutions, and coaching and counseling managers and employees.
  • Act as a point of escalation to assist the HR Team with employee relations and leave of absence questions.
  • Assist in reviewing, processing, and managing leaves of absence, including FMLA, State Leave, workers’ compensation, and other applicable leaves.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Oversee and manage a performance system that drives high performance for the division.
  • Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs.
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.
  • Assist HR Management in implementing HR processes, policies, change management, recruiting, employee relations, training, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to champion and accelerate a culture of excellence where people feel engaged and inspired to deliver top business results.
  • Act as a liaison between the domestic and international container divisions to streamline processes, implement strategies, and further align the company.
  • Participate in creating and updating HR-related forms, policies, and processes to ensure best practices and compliance.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new and existing HRIS platforms, including review of best practices, system administration, and ongoing maintenance.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10+ years of Human Resources experience, with significant international/global exposure.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of HR strategic leadership with labor relations experience in both Union and Non-Union environments.
  • Industry experience in shipping/logistics/transportation/maritime is preferred but not required.
  • Extensive experience working with large companies both domestically and internationally.
  • Proficient in written and spoken Spanish.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws (e.g., ADA, ADEA, EEO, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic workforce planning.
  • Superior analytical skills and experience using data to make decisions.
  • Strong ability to attract and retain talent and work with motivated high-performance teams.
  • Ability to bring immediate credibility to the HR function through professional qualifications and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates integrity and a consultative, collaborative approach.
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills, along with strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Key Attributes: ability to work with all levels of personnel; asks questions first and uses data to drive solutions; collaborative and inclusive; analytical and detail-oriented.

Work Environment
  • Office-based with climate-controlled environment; normal computer screen exposure.
  • Moderate noise level; travel domestically or internationally up to 15% and occasional after-hours work as needed.
