Position Description
The Human Services Department is seeking a driven, customer-oriented, and experienced Leaves and ADA specialist to join our collaborative and innovative Human Resources Division as a Sr. HRBP
- Leave & ADA Specialist. This role would be dedicated to advancing the missions of the City of Seattle and the Human Services Department by providing timely and accurate leave and/or ADA information and support to staff when they need to call upon programs designed to support them during the most unique and/or difficult times of their employment.

Job ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Human Resources Business Partner over Leaves and Accommodations independently manages:
1) department-wide leave administration;
2) temporary and permanent work accommodations;
3) workers' compensation; and
4) the department's safety programs for the Central Building, Renton office, Seattle Municipal Tower (SMT), and field staff. This position also completes other Human Resources work and special projects as assigned. As such, this position handles matters that are highly sensitive and private to our employees. Excellent customer service skills and having an inherent ability to maintain confidential information are key.
Individuals performing this body of work must also have an innate ability to communicate and implement rules and processes in a compassionate manner.
- Manages programs in all assigned functions to meet the needs of our customers and meet State and City compliance requirements
- Conducts technical training in assigned functions
- Interprets and applies rules, guidelines, and policies
- Identifies customers' needs and workable solutions
- Develops strong business partnerships with employees, labor partners, executives, Seattle Human Resources, and other City partners to address ADA, FML, and safety matters
- Drafts written correspondence and incident summaries
- Monitors leave, safety, ADA, and industrial injury processes to provide status and trending reports
- Serves as the department's Safety Officer, which leads and maintains the department's safety committee, addressing any safety issues or concerns
- Manages the department's workers’ compensation program, providing training and ensuring compliance
- Develops processes and procedures reflecting best practices
- Follows up with employees to ensure individual and business needs are met
- Presents information to varied audiences throughout the City
- Serves as back-up in other Human Resources functions, including but not limited to HR Information System entry, classification review processes, performance management, etc.
- Works closely with all members of the HSD Human Resources team to coordinate related work
- Solid understanding of federal, state, and city regulations, policies, and procedures related to leave administration, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and State and City workers' compensation processes
- Understanding of regulations and procedures related to safety in the field and reporting requirements
- In addition, qualified applicants must have a successful track record providing excellent customer service and maintaining highly sensitive and confidential information, including a proven ability to accurately communicate complex information, excellent organizational and prioritization skills, proven ability to work well in a close team and community-type work environment, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
