ABOUT THE ROLE

The HR Manager plays a critical role in advancing the effectiveness, integrity, and operational excellence of the People and Culture team at the Seattle Art Museum. This role leads the organization’s HR operations and total rewards functions and is responsible for the execution and continuous improvement of core HR processes, systems, compliance, data integrity, and compensation and benefits administration. Working in close partnership with HR, Finance, and IT, the HR Manager ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery across the employee lifecycle and serves as a subject matter expert in HR operations and total rewards, providing trusted guidance and solutions that support both employees and organizational objectives.

FSLA STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

REPORTS TO: Chief People Officer

COMPENSATION: $95,600 - $110,000

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • HR Systems & Data Management
    • Maintain and manage the organization’s HRIS (Paylocity), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for system updates, troubleshooting, and reporting needs.
    • Generate regular and ad hoc reports and dashboards on headcount, turnover, compensation, and other key metrics.
    • Partner with IT and vendors to optimize HR tech stack, systems functionality and enhancements and user experience.
    • Provide expertise in making recommendations for replacement systems and implementation as needed.
    • Design, document, and continuously improve HR system workflows to support onboarding, job changes, compensation reviews, benefits administration, and offboarding.
    • Liaise with Finance and payroll to ensure accurate transmission of employee data and timely processing of payroll changes.
  • Operational Processes & Compliance
    • Coordinate and execute key HR processes including status changes, position management, and employee data integrity.
    • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with legal and organizational requirements, including I-9s, EEO reporting, employee files, benefits, and 403b audits.
    • Support the administration of leaves of absence, accommodations, and other regulated programs.
    • Maintain and update all HR policies, procedures, and process documentation in partnership with HR leadership.
  • Total Rewards
    • Oversee our total rewards strategy and design including benefits package, compensation, recognition, and well-being programs to attract and retain talent.
    • Lead compensation administration including job leveling, market analysis and benchmarking, and annual pay adjustment, merit and/or bonus cycles.
    • Partner with finance and HR leaders on budgeting, workforce planning, and total rewards.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local wage and hour laws, benefits regulations, and reporting requirements.
    • Evaluate and manage benefits program (health, welfare, retirement, and ancillary benefits) to ensure competitiveness, compliance and cost-effectiveness.
    • Support benefits administration through data entry, eligibility tracking, and employee communications during open enrollment and life events.
    • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, HR policies, and systems with clarity and care.
    • Educate leaders and employees on compensation philosophies, pay transparency and total reward programs.
  • Process Improvement & Documentation
    • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve HR workflows, automation, and service delivery.
    • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure consistency in practice.
    • Support HR project implementation (e.g., HRIS upgrades, compliance audits, total rewards processes, communications) as needed.
  • Leadership
    • Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership and HR colleagues.
    • Provide support in managing budgets for total rewards and HR systems areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in HR operations, HR systems, or generalist roles with strong operational focus.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity) and strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of employment regulations (FLSA, I-9, EEO, HIPAA, LOA, Worker’s Comp).
