The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Chief of Psychology. This is a full-time position. The Chief of Psychology position provides clinical oversight and direction for the delivery of mental health assessment and treatment services.
This position covers WCCW (Washington Corrections Center for Women, Gig Harbor, WA), WCC (WA Corrections Center, Shelton, WA), SCCC (Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Aberdeen, WA), CBCC (Clallam Bay Corrections Center, Clallam Bay, WA), CCCC (Cedar Creek Corrections Center, Littlerock, WA) and OCC (Olympic Corrections Center, Forks, WA). This position is mostly remote. This includes providing clinical leadership to the facility-based teams to support their work in providing clinically appropriate, medically necessary services to the people on their caseloads.
During times of staff vacancies, this position may provide direct supervision of Psychology Associates. This position provides SME consultation to major divisions within DOC to include Prisons, Classification and TDU. This position is also part of the HQ Mental Health team which determines policy and protocol for the delivery of mental health services in DOC.

Core Responsibilities- Clinical Oversight: Clinical Oversight is the evaluation of the clinical practice of Psychologist 4s to ensure adherence to appropriate clinical practice and the quality of assessment and treatment services provided to patients. This review protects the agency from risk associated with poor clinical practice and includes evaluation of documentation of services provided to incarcerated individuals to ensure quality standards. This includes assessment, development of a treatment plan, and the treatment services provided.
In compliance with CQIP, this incumbent will provide Clinical Oversight Monitoring for Psychologist 4s at WCC, SCCC, and CBCC. During Psych 4 vacancies, this position will provide clinical supervision/oversight to Psychology Associates at these facilities. Reviews include chart reviews, audits, site visits, and case consultations. Each Psychologist 4 will have at least one Clinical Oversight meeting annually. Any recommendations for improvements will be provided to the Psychologist 4.
The Chief of Psychology may provide coverage in emergency oversight when there is an absence of another Chief of Psychology due to vacations or illnesses. - An annual report will be provided to the administrative supervisor of each Psychologist 4 with an assessment of their clinical work and observed leadership skills.
- Consult with the administrative supervisor on disciplinary actions for MH staff at these locations.
- Mentor Psych 4s as leaders of their teams, including providing effective clinical supervision for staff.
SME Consultant to Prisons/Reentry Divisions: This involves providing subject matter expertise to various divisions' committees and work groups. This may include the following, but is not exhaustive as committees evolve over time.
- Represent HS/MH at monthly PREA meetings and share necessary PREA information with HS staff.
- Represent HS/MH ssification decisions involve a multidisciplinary team including Mental Health representation. When a request for a Mental Health override in the Classification process is made, justification from a Psychologist is necessary to support the request. The incumbent will train and mentor a small team of Psych 4s who will provide this consultation.
