Medical Assistant I assists with clinical procedures and daily operations in support of prevention-based research studies. This role works as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
This is a 20-hour a week position with an 8-1pm schedule, 4 days a week with a mandatory Wednesday work day.
Responsibilities Clinical Support- Perform in accordance with research protocols, delegated functions and procedures which are within MA scope of practice. This may include such procedures such as vital signs , anthropometrics such as waist and hip circumference, blood draws, urine collections, and other common measurements.
- Collect and process blood, urine, and biopsy specimens according to specific research protocols. Blood processing includes centrifuging and alloquoting blood specimens. Biopsy sample processing would include weighing and dividing samples.
- Interact with patients, families, and study personnel while adhering to confidentiality and privacy practices.
- Perform DEXA imaging.
- Conduct sterile technique protocols when required such as setting up sterile trays for procedures, assisting during sterile procedures and autoclaving of equipment
- Assist MD investigators and Advanced Practice Providers in biopsy procedures, pelvic exams or other procedures.
- Assemble blood collection and processing setups and maintain study inventories.
- Maintain, clean and organize exam and laboratory rooms and work stations. This includes biohazard waste disposal and re-stocking.
- Work with MA Research Coordinator to maintain the Research Clinic availability calendar for client scheduling and keep up-to-date within 24 business hours to ensure smooth scheduling. Problem solve proactively for scheduling issues that arise, working with PC leadership to ensure an optimal client and study participant experience.
- Work with MA Research Coordinator to prepare and revise training materials as needed
- Organize and maintain paper and electronic files in the Research Clinic.
- Create clinic data collection templates and labels according to study needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
- Interim Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the state's conduct and standards of practice.
- Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
- Education enabling obtainment of Medical Assistant Certification
- Completion of a medical assistant program offered by a school accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); or
