Veterinary Technician - Oncology

is hiring an extraordinary Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician!

A Blue Pearl Oncology Technician is someone who is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and is able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are a must. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients as well as supporting the clinician with patient care and client communication.

• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Calculate basic medical math.
• Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
• Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
• Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
• Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.
• Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and be able to converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
• Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization; quickly and competently facilitate incoming calls.
• Have knowledge of the tumor types.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).
