Associate Director/Director, Head of Bioanalytical

Dovetail Therapeutics is a Seattle biopharmaceutical company founded in 2023 by Orbi Med, the world’s leading healthcare venture capital firm. Dovetail is committed to developing novel biotherapeutics that will meaningfully improve the lives of patients. The company has established a transformative, proprietary platform and a robust, expanding pipeline, with its lead drug candidate entering the clinic this year.

Dovetail is seeking an Associate Director/Director of Bioanalytical to lead the development and execution of strategies that optimally meet the bioanalytical requirements of novel monoclonal antibody therapeutics in preclinical and clinical development. This role requires strong scientific/technical and regulatory experience and expertise, combined with excellent strategic thinking, operational efficiency and standards, and leadership skills.

The Head of Bioanalytical will oversee the development, qualification or validation, and execution of pharmacokinetic (PK), anti-drug antibody (ADA), and pharmacodynamic (PD) or target engagement (TE) assays. This will include performing and leading other scientists in method development and sample analyses, while managing outsourcing at external labs as appropriate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Strategy and Leadership:
  • Define and execute bioanalytical strategies for PK, ADA, and PD/TE assays that support the lead optimization and preclinical and clinical development of monoclonal antibodies using ligand-binding, ELISA, ECLIA, MSD, LC-MS/MS, and hybrid methods.
  • Serve as the bioanalytical lead on cross‑functional project teams and in regulatory interactions. Balance a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, knowledge of cutting‑edge bioanalytical techniques, scientific excellence and the efficiencies required of a start‑up.
Team Development/Operations:
  • Mentor bioanalytical scientists, developing their abilities to think strategically in devising bioanalytical methods. Create individual development plans and foster learning of new platforms to strengthen technical depth.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day bioanalytical operations, performing and managing method development and sample analyses, including the management of method transfer, development and sample analyses at external labs. Establish and maintain SOPs, including standards for bioanalytical protocol and report writing.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Broad experience and demonstrated expertise in developing and qualifying or validating bioanalytical methods for PK, ADA and PD/TE assays and in the transfer and validation of methods at external labs. Expertise across multiple platforms required, with some experience with LC‑MS/MS or hybrid approaches for PK or PD/TE assays highly desired.
  • Combine excellent bench scientist skills with strategic thinking and strong communication skills. Adept at devising and gaining alignment with senior management on bioanalytical strategies, particularly for trouble‑shooting and problem‑solving to overcome unique challenges associated with novel molecules.
  • Strong understanding of global regulatory requirements for bioanalytical assays.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the demonstrated ability to develop scientific talent.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, interdisciplinary environment.
Qualifications
  • B.S./M.S. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline with 10+ years of industry experience in bioanalytical sciences or a Ph.D. in a related discipline with 6+ years of experience.
  • Experience developing bioanalytical methods for a range of biologic modalities and assay types (e.g. PK, PD) and managing CROs is required.

We foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, with each team member playing a critical role in shaping our success. Dovetail offers a competitive total compensation and benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, paid parking or transit, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off, among other components.

Dovetail is located at 1616 Eastlake Ave East, in the vibrant South Lake Union neighborhood.
