Overview
Provide CT and Diagnostic X-ray imaging services to patients in accordance with physician orders. Ensure patient safety and provide high quality testing. Prepare rooms and diagnostic/CT equipment. Perform testing, operate equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and process images. Exercise professional judgment and uphold medical ethics in performance of diagnostic services. Apply knowledge of the principles of growth and development to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific patients including geriatrics, adults, adolescents, and pediatrics.
Maintain strict patient and staff confidentiality. Adhere to sterile techniques. May require heavy lifting.
- Diagnostic Testing:
Perform quality images through protocols and positions to best demonstrate the area of interest, respecting patient comfort and ability. Demonstrate knowledge to perform cross-section imaging. Produce images in accordance with proper radiographic techniques. Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Provide services to all age groups served. Educate patients on procedures according to age-specific needs. Facilitate patient cooperation and alleviate anxiety by addressing concerns.
Verify the appropriate procedure by checking physicians' orders and outpatient prescriptions. Contact physicians with discrepancies. Demonstrate understanding of contrast agents for proper organ studies and prepare desired contrast media. Ensure appropriate documentation prior to procedure. Assist with procedures as needed. - Customer Service:
Provide timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive, friendly manner, including patients, physicians, and other staff. Inform individuals when delays exist and how they are being addressed. Promote patient-focused care. Provide quality patient care including preparation, scheduling, description of exam, communication of pain expectations, post-procedure expectations, and instruction for all procedures as needed. Maintain strict patient and employee confidentiality.
Communicate to the patient when results will be received. - Patient and Employee Safety:
Maintain safe radiation levels to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and others. Follow written radiation safety procedures. Perform all necessary equipment checks prior to use. Ensure patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggest improvements for patient outcomes when indicated. Complete quality assurance, quality control, and radiation safety activities as appropriate. Identify patients and verify with armband checks. Ensure no repeat studies due to failure to check armband or misidentification.
Observe patients during procedures and report any unusual occurrences or changes in condition. Assess allergy status. Demonstrate compliance in IV access and follow departmental IV protocols. Demonstrate educated and rapid response to contrast reactions as outlined in policy and procedure manuals. - General Behavior:
Arrive at the start of the shift ready to begin work; take meals and breaks at appropriate times; maintain a neat, clean, and stocked work area. Identify staff training issues and participate in policy and procedure development. Communicate concerns to lead technologists and management. Work as an effective team member to efficiently perform radiological procedures. Rotate shifts and assignments as required.
Take stand-by call as assigned and respond per policy. Adhere to safety, infection control, and other OSHA policies and procedures. - Information System:
Ensure patient information is accurately entered into the departmental computer system. Access the current account and complete patient records for the appropriate procedure as directed in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
Experience — No prior experience listed
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Graduated from an accredited radiologic technology program.
License, Certification, Registration
- Certified Radiologic Technologist (Washington)
- Basic Life Support
- Communication, problem-solving, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- One (1) year experience in a hospital setting.
- One (1) year of direct cross-sectional anatomy experience.
- One (1) year of recent direct experience in diagnostic x-ray procedures.
