Whether you are new to working in pharmacies or an experienced Pharmacy Technician, Walgreens will train you to use your skills and talents to serve and care for our patients and customers. The courses, learning activities, and resources provided to you in our pharmacy technician training program are designed to give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on‑the‑job experiences you need to prepare to become a certified pharmacy technician.
Responsibilities- Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy.
- Assist the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
- Deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience by greeting customers, offering assistance, resolving issues, and answering questions.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
- Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
- Assist in pharmacy practice under pharmacist supervision in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
- Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems accurately.
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, pouring, and verifying medication, checking for interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all prescription dispensing activities.
- Register sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash appropriately.
- Assist customers in locating products in the OTC aisle.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including calls to physicians.
- Process and correct manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently.
- Support Pharmacy Department inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments.
- Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and file claims for overages, shortages, and order errors.
- Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services such as collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
- Assist pharmacy staff in coordinating clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
- Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community (physicians, nurses, other health providers).
- Assist with exterior and interior maintenance, ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
